400 lbs. in that car is probably more than a second! P/S is probably 2-3 tenths. you can remove the exhaust fron the manifold back.if you use stock manifold.

I believe there is an idler to replace the A/C Compressor as well. By the way, Bob did a darn fine job of driving considering it's been thirty years since he has done it. No tach or temp guage and we had passes with in .03 of each other and he ran .007 off his dial in... The kid that beat him dropped a nice package on him.

I may be fairly ignorant about IHRA, but why a FWD car in Pure Stock?
What's the problem with, say CF/SA? BTW, is this a Quad 4 or it's descendant ?

Yes, it's one of the 16 valve Quad 4's. I haven't done my homework yet, I guess there are more than a few versions of these motors.

If so it would fit in EF/SA for IHRA 1/4 index is 15.90 1/8 9.85 car would need to weigh 2850 + plus 170 = 3020. IHRA break for E is 19.00 lb.s It would be DF/S in NHRA 1/4 index 15.60 1/8 9.71 I had a friend with a Grand Am it was a `97 Quad 4 he used to run low 16s with it with some short street tires, a chip or something for the computer and not much else. It was about 10 yr.s ago so I can`t remember for sure all what he did but I know it was not much. It was his wife`s DD . I would think you should be able to hit the index with very little money. I don't think front wheel drives are in pure stock anymore there used to be front wheel drive pure stock classes but they are gone and don't think they go in to regular pure stock.

Good news is, it makes the weight issue come into line with where the car is at. With the car weighing 2900, in CF/S it can weigh 2795. I'm looking at losing at least 300lbs, figuring I first have to lose a couple hundred pounds to compensate for my own weight, you're looking at losing an additional hundred pounds to bring the car to weight. Where this really changes the game. In CF/S, this car falls into the realm of the traditional stocker. That puts this whole idea into a different cost level. That was the appeal of Pure Stock.

First of all you are looking at the NHRA breaks...
I mentioned CF/SA which is an IHRA class In IHRA, it's a natural C car. Now from now on it's a CL or SL model ..Nobody looks at what kind of seat covers you have. It it make you feel better, go to the boneyard and pop off a couple of emblems and glue them on. That makes it a nat. D car so you go to E @ your current weight (15.90 index) Doesn't that sound better ? Most of the weight you remove would have to come of the front end...Not a good idea. You need a real header and collector (call Billy), Stocker cams and valve job, A set of chain gears for the trans (Owen Quirrion) Minimum 8" or 7" converter (call ME) Some way to tune the computer (Ed Wright) It ought to run under the index with a healthy short block. If you're serious, there's a guy here that can help you (SS3011) Now grab yourself a Rockstar and get to work !
