How about Indy...you could contact NHRA to see if one could be held in conjunction with the US Nationals, or just do one on a another date when the track isn't in use.

The reunion in 2008 was originally based around the 68 model year as the 40th anniversary, this started out to be 68s then it snowballed into everything with a hemi and as a result was a great success, maybe a reunion for the 50th for the 68s in 2018 would work out as this format has worked in the past and run the same way and have it all hemi cars ,once again the 2008 reunion was an awesome event hard pressed to be duplicated ever but sticking to a proven path may be more successful,I was at the 25th 68 reunion at carlisle and the 40th in Ohio ,they were both successful and based around the 68s,this is not to downplay the 64s,65s ,or other special interest hemi cars but its just a suggestion as what has worked in the past ,Pennsylvania or Ohio would be good ideas for location, once again just sticking to what has worked in the past, unfortunately Dick Towers is not with us this time around ,pretty hard to fill those shoes but a thought out event I am sure would make him look down and smile.I realize 2018 is quite awhile from now but you dont put an event like this together very easily and would give more time for it to be properly done ,this is the only way in my opinion to reach the success of the 2008 reunion .

Sure if it was for the '68 models only...but were talking 50th Anniversary of the "426 Hemi motor"...Daytona sure would be nice place too, since the 426 Hemi Plymouth & Dodges set it on fire back in 1964.

I sent a message to the editor at Mopar magazine. I'll see if there is any response from Ma Mopar before exploring other venues. It might be cool to have it at Chrysler HQ? I think I'll stick to probing companies with some pockets to fund such an event. They would have their PR people to promote the event as money and human resources (time) seem to be the limiting factor from what people are saying.
Everyone can feel free to persue whatever event time frame/location they see fit. I don't have any desire to ramrod anything through and multiple people raising the idea might make it catch hold quicker and/or better.

James, have you been in contact with any other people, magazines or any other companies that might want to help out or sponsor this event...I'm thinking maybe some members here can make a small list some of them off the top of their heads...because any corporate help is better than leaving it up a few individuals that might be burnt out or don't want to attempt another one...just sayin'.

Great idea starting interest on this, because getting something like this doesn't happen overnight as you all know. The Reunion of '08 cannot & willnot be replicated. Some of the people that made it such a success are no longer with us, & even if they were, I believe that was a one time deal. For anyone wanting to plan the next reunion, I believe you can't look back at what has been done & try to make it like the original in 08', but rather, it needs a new start. ALOT has changed since that time. For anyone that attended the '08 deal, as successfull as it was, I think you may agree with me that there wasn't much, if any financial gain to the promotors such as Dick, & Jim. They did it for no other reason but "cause". They did it because they loved that "cause". It was first class in every way, shape, & form. For the next reunion to be any where close to the quality of the original, I believe you will need people that are dedicated to this cause. Yes, you will need corporate money, so people aren't pulling coin out of their pockets to pull this off again, but the organizers NEED TO BE TRUE BLUE to "the cause". Just my .002 guys. liteweight Last edited by Liteweight; 05-24-2012 at 09:25 AM. |
