All you safety conscious racers would be happy with a aftermarket safer seat that is as heavy as the stock seat it is replacing. YEAH RIGHT!!!!!

All this BS is ONLY about wanting lighter weight seats in Stock.

Nope. Not even close. Keep your head in the sand if you want

I think Jason hit the nail on the head. Every time someone wants to slip something into stock or super stock that wasn't legal before, they always use the 'greater safety' rationale.

If they hadn't allowed all the other improvements we wouldn't have 1967 cars running 9's at over 135 MPH and the "safer" seats would be less of an issue. The top of this slippery slope started a long time ago.

Overheard somewhere deep in the Stock pits.....

" I sure wish they would let us replace our old seats with lightweight ones.

Why?

I need to get rid of some more weight. The lightweight brakes helped but my car is still 75 lbs heavy."

There ARE those of us who don't have hundreds of pounds in the trunk !
My car, with no ballast at all, and 10 gallons of fuel, is 8 pounds over minimum weight. a 30 pound lighter seat would allow me to put that 30 pounds where it would help with weight transfer. However, as a restorer at heart, I like my newly re-upholstered factory bench seat.

Why do you need a 10 gal fuel tank? Hell go ahead and make it a 20 gal tank and you can probably race all year. Aubrey how many NHRA races do you run a year i would like to check that car out looks nice.

So take it out of the trunk! I'm NOT talking about "lightweight" seats! I'm talking about allowing safer seats that look stock! What is not smart about that? If some of you had seen some of the older stock seats fold up after a crash as I have you would not hesitate to approve of this! Jim
