Troy,
There are probably a lot of people who have put in time on those heads but I doubt that many have devoted as much of their life to them as Mike Kirby, a partner of Kay Sissell back in the day <http://www.sissellautomotive.com>. Mike has the molds that he and Kay designed and casts up a pallet or two of castings every year. Watching him machine a raw aluminum casting into a race head is a fascinating way to spend some time. A couple of years ago, one of Mike's customers wanted a fuel injected 250 so he fabbed a manifold, we hooked up a Holley Commander 950 FI system and he and I spent a couple of days on his dyno sorting out fuel and timing maps. That was a very responsive little motor. In addition to the aluminum heads Mike has a comprehensive product line of bolt-on components for those motors. He runs Kay's old twin-six dragster on the nostalgia circuit with some success. Last time I talked to him he was experimenting with running nitro in the dragster. It would be worth your time to call him (number is on his website) and talk about what he has to offer. Mike is a great conversationalist as well as a died-in-the-wool six-banger gearhead. Good luck, c

After running both the 230 & the 250.....unless your putting it in a truck or have a light aftermarket crank the 230 is the way to go.....230 uses 283 pistons & crank is about 18 lbs lighter!

You guys are a wealth of information, thank you.
I never see any 230's but 250's seem to run rampet. They'll take 307 pistons but I'll proabably have to have some made anyway to handle the boost. Ed I would be interested in that head, they are usually very expensive and hard to find though. |

The Chevrolet Six Cylinder Power Manual by Leo Santucci is the ones you want. Volume two is a little more into turbos and super chargers. I'm building an injected-turbo 292 for bracket racing as we speak. Injecting a siamised port engine can get interesting unless you use a throttle body. Mine is port injected. Some claim close to 1000 hp out of these things. I'm not going that far. Looking for half that.
