250 inline six

Hey fellas I'm building a '49 Chevy sled in my free time and will be running a late 60's 250. Plans are to fuel inject it and turbo it.

Any one run this engine for S/SS? Factory head is horrible so I thought I'd see if anyone had any experience getting them to flow better.

Thanks

Troy

Can't help on the head. But take a look at the Vi-Pec ECU it has some great boost control options.

There used to be a company I think that made heads or re- did heads for chevy 6's and I believe it was Clifford but i may be wrong.

That's who it was. Clifford Research. Hope he's still alive. :-)

When you add pressurized air the head is no where near as important as naturally aspirated. Getting a cam profile that builds boost might be more of a challenge.

Actually, the heads are too big. way too much dead air. i don't know how to contact him but there was/is a guy out there that does comp stuff, Lump is the only name I remember that modifies those heads.

SPATurbo out of Brazil loves these motors and acually makes a manifold for them. I just picked one up used on ebay. Clifford still makes parts for them too. They make a nice intake that will take a carb or can be machined for injectors.

I'll probably just give the head a bolt in lump kit to give it some short side radius and clean it up a bit by hand and call it good.

Thanks for the info so far!

Brian Self from OK. Comp racer. His dad Glen Self raced an H/MP Camaro inliner in the 70s and had great success.

Troy, you should know who Brian is.

Brian (Lump) Self is Glenn's nephew, and Kevin's cousin.
I believe he now lives in the Houston area.
