If it is just a part time racer and not a lot of power, just stick with the 28x9.
15x8 with a 4.5" backspace with stock width rear end.
No rubbing issues. A 29 or 29.5 should work, but will lower the gear ratio number.

The motor is a 355, it ran 11.10 in a 69 Camaro 4.56 gear.
I do not want want to cut the wheel well. I think a 29X9 on it will work without cutting. This new car has a 4.56 in it as well. Just trying to get ideas for what has worked for others.
Thanks

Wink Re: 68 Camaro tire recommendation

29x9 should work.... 1 thing I learned this year is tire compound means A LOT! My car @ the local "slick" track with the M/T Radial would NOT hook! 1 time it would then the next 3 it would not. I put a set of Hoosier CO6 radials on & it has not spun the tires the 1st time! Just an FYI
