On the subject of class wins,it seems as though it rains quite often and the "class winner" is the fastest car.
Its pretty obvious that the fastest car SHOULD win class, but it is not always the case. Lets say the A/SA class winner runs 9.85 with a .095 reaction time on his qualifying run.Another car runs 9.90 with a .015 reaction time. I think the 9.90 car should win because of the better reaction time. Anyone agree,or just leave things as they are? (Anybody should understand that there is no personal agenda here,as I have the slowest car by several tenths.) |

I know its not my fault there aren't more cars in my class. Add to that a performance based index hit we took this fall. IF the .5-under rule remains it will mean to win class on a single in SS/GS in 2010 you will have to run 0.95-under the 2009 index. Art & I both can do that in good air but in july/august heat that is a tall order but there are a couple other cars out there that can't do that.
Is there a justifiable reason why the indexes were lowered across the board? The qualifying order won't change only the number in the right column of how far under you ran will be smaller. I've not looked at any data to see how many cars at any given event would either have to step up or not come as they didn't run .3-under before. I know many that run that close to the index are doing it in "bracket mode" and prefer to run near the bottom of the ladder so it may be a non-issue for many. Also consider that many of the fast runs, records, etc are set with combos run legitimately on kill - one shot wonders. Just think if you had to run a whole event with the car iced down, 2-quarts low on 0-wt oil. We'd be down cleaning the track all the time. I am all for S/SS being performance based but this is ridiculous - not to mention the AHFS triggers are moved higher than before - that too is backwards. If the trigger was lower, more corrections would occur and combos should better align - moving the triggers up just creates a bigger gap than existed previously. So still not clear of what these changes are expected to achieve. Enough ranting - guess its time to go spend more money.

I thought you still won class & trophy but did not qualify for contingency if you were not 5 or better under.

I believe you'll have to go .80 under present index's to get the class win and extras.

Then they changed it to you have to run .5 under to get the class win. Picking on the singles. it was intended to get rid of cars like mine. But I remember a few high classed manual shifting cars that didn't go the .5 under and didn't get the win money or trophy.
