Default National Points Structure

First congratulations to all the National Champions.
I believe that since the quota at most national event races are below the 65 needed for a seven round race the winner of the race should be awarded 95 points, R/U 84 points, semifinal 73 points, quarter finals 62 points, and 51 points to reach the round of 16. If it is a seven round race the winner will get 105 and R/U 94 and so on.
If the extra 11 points is not awarded the winner of a 6 round race it should make the points chase a little tighter. As if a one point difference in Stock was not close enough. Again congratulations to Joe and Cooter for keeping us on the edge of our seats until it was over. It was fun to watch.
What say you?

It doesn?t make a lot of sense that a 6 round victory is worth the same points as a 7 round victory.

This is exactly what happened to me. I won St. Louis in a 7 round race, still only got 105. I ended in a dead tie for the national championship even though I probably won more rounds?.

I think its stupid to have national event quota's of 50, 60 or 70 entries. This unnecessarily creates singles during eliminations that can effect the points chase. National events should be 64 or 128 entries to eliminate single runs. At most National events, 5-10% of entries withdraw a few days before the event or no show, so additonal entries should be allowed to fill out the field at 64 or 128.

So if NHRA makes the big entry races, Indy, Gators, Keystones, and Vegas limit entry at 140 for 128 car field it should be a no singles race. The same would hold true for the smaller races 64 car field with the 70 car quotas. With the races being a qualified field it will help make the AHFS work a little better.
I added almost 10% to the qualifying fields of 64 and 128 to get the 70 and 140 numbers.
If an alternate gets to race their
points would be counted just as if they qualified.

More ideas anyone?

All of this makes perfect sense, I have no idea why it isn't already like this.

Why not go to 115 for a seven round win....

When you win a 6 round race, does it pay less than winning a 7 round race? I haven't seen NHRA or the manufacturers pro-rate your check because you won a 6 round or even a 5 round race.
If I was NHRA, I would want odd numbers at the payback rounds, because that is more money in my pocket.

Maybe NHRA will make changes, but keep in mind the standard basketball hoop height is 10' and it has been that way since 1891. I am not saying anyone is incorrect here, just giving a different perspective is all.

Is it more important to NHRA to skim the one extra semifinal round money or have a championship decided by rounds won?
It is the 21 point swing I don?t understand from R/U to winner in a six round race.
I?m glad the peach basket is still 10 feet

I understand the point you're making but I'm also not sure how we would know, in most cases. Knowledge of the divisional payout structure needs to be earned through experience in each division, it seems.

I assume the points structure was designed to not handicap the 'earning potential' in divisions with lower attendance and keep the maximum value of most races equal. On the other hand, there have been races where first round losers received 31 points.
