What was everyones feelings on 2 fastest in Q1 running for class? Im sure it looses some of the fun when you have multiple cars in your class. Also does it help on raising the cars average as you have to run fast twice if your interested in winning class?

My opinion prob doesn’t count because I didn’t attend.
But no. I don’t want to see that happen again. Granted it might have been better that the fastest qual car getting the trophy (arguable). But under no circumstances would I ever want to see that be the new format moving forward. Full, complete and standard format Indy class runoffs are scared and need to be defended by class racers to the bitter end. |

I prefer the normal way class is run and I know their schedule was compacted due to the virus and the timing they elected to use. Often times when you have a 4 to 7 cars in class run off, the quickest and fastest does not always win. I love the unpredictability of that. With this system, if the fastest doesn't have issues on their first time run, then usually the quickest of the bunch wins class... We also lose the advantage of watching the large number of class races and the drama associated with that.

I was there. You had to make a choice go fast on the first qualifier to get into the class runoff and if you did go fast again to try and win class or decide you wanted to use the two qualifiers to prepare for the eliminator. Some chose the first option and others the second. I much prefer the standard class format that has been used successfully for many years. I also believe that at least at Indy that the AHFS should NOT be in effect. I hope that next year the schedule for Indy returns to a more normal format. Getting up every morning at 5:30 to 6:00 to be ready to run in the fog and dark doesn’t need to happen again. Mike McMahan 25 H/SA

I thought it was an interesting wrinkle, a conundrum. I tried to make my fast pass rd1 but turned the tire a bit and came up short, so much respect for those that made it hold. I took the opportunity for Q2 as my time shot but when you get 1 run a day separated by 24 hours at dawn in the fog/haze it makes it that much more challenging. Anyone that was able to keep their car dialed in and consistent deserved much respect too. I prefer the traditional Indy but nothing has been traditional in 2020 so a concentrated Indy was fine for now

If this is the new format, I think it would be nice if everyone got two qualifiers then run the single round of class finals. This way, you at least get one run in bracket mode for the eliminator.
For better or worse, I think this format or some variation will become the normal. |

There were 6 of us in V/SA. It could have been interesting if we could have run the normal format.....but, it is what it is....

Agreed- Sending out a class call at 6:30 AM with "C'mon Eileen" blaring on the P.A. is just plain ridiculous. It's all about the pros and TV time!

Hopefully this will be a one time deal.
However as a NHRA.TV spectator is was neat to watch, knowing every run was for the class win. I understand it would be a staging lanes nightmare but it showed to me how cool it would be if all cars ran for the trophy but each class ran together each round. Maybe in the future it would at least be possible to run all the class finals at once. |
