Default 2011 Mustang V-6 Auto

I am dealing on a 2011 Mustang V-6 auto. I want to bracket race it and possibly race stock with it. Do you think this will be competitive in stock. Not trying to set records. Just want to be competitive. Thanks any input will be appreciated.

Well, I have no experience with this combo at all. THAT being said, it has LOTS of compression, LOTS of valve area, good valve lift and a good sized throttle body. It will run J-K-L so IMHO it won't be a killer at 260 HP and it won't be cheap but it should run well.

My Brother and I started a build on a 1997 Mustang convertible V6 for Q,R or T/SA 232 CID 150 HP NHRA rated 170 Putting together 8.8 rear with 5:13 at the moment, we believe will be able to run the index easy enough. Also using a C4 tranny. Will have to install roll bar due too rag top. Good luck with your build.

I think you are mis-taking what Billy is saying... NHRA has the HP at 260... it matters not what Ford sold the car as. With an NHRA rating of 260 Billy does not feel like it will be a rocket against the index. We all realize it probably makes more than 260 that doesn't necessarily mean it's a competitive combo compared to others.. should be okay but probably not a combo where you can go 1.00 under without considerable testing and $$.

It seems to me to be a combo much like the Foxbody we have. Can be fairly solid with enough $$ but will never be a rocket ship against the index no matter what we spend. Still a fun car and we beat it to death as a bracket car...

It's more than paid for itself bracket racing which is much more than most stock/SS cars can say.

I have a 3.7 in my 2011 f-150.

As a "base" six cyl pick up engine (think 300 six from years ago) this thing is a screamer!!!
If I mat it and hold, it (as well as 3 other 3.7's I tried in minivans/pick ups) it shifts at 6750rpm and after one or two gears it is hitting 7000 shift points. FROM THE FACTORY!!

It would be a labour intensive job to pull a head/etc, but I see a LOT of potential in an all aluminum, 4v per cyl, dohc engine!

I could see this flowing enough (with more duration of course) to run 8500+ in stock.
Love to hear if anyone has built one for racing. (and not the twin turbo crowd either lol)

I have a 2011 3.7 Mustang and am in several 3.7 groups and forums.

From what I have read the all motor guys are hard pressed to get into the 11's without porting the intake and going with a larger throttle body.

The key with those engines is the tune to work with that variable timing.
I suppose someone could get custom cams made but I have never heard of any cam company making them.

As posted above, I do not seeing this combo qualifying competitively.
By competitive, I mean being able to qualify for the US Nationals ( -.885 under )

I noticed Steve Stickel has been running a 2011 Mustang 3.7 in M/SA at several D1 races, has run right around - .40 under, car looks good

I spoke to Steve this weekend at Cecil. Cool car and it will eventually be fast. He's got a lot of things to figure out yet but that happens when you're the first one out there doing a project.
