What does the astrik represent at the Houston and Dallas Nat'l events on the class schedule?

It means there is a Divisional race either the week before or the week after the National Event. It applies to Gainesville, Vegas1, Houston, and Dallas. The dates for the Divisional race are listed at the bottom of the page.

I don't think it's quite that simple. Brainerd, for one, has a divisional the weekend prior to the national but no asterisk.

To me, it looks like "national event" class eliminations will be run at those divisional races listed next to them on the class schedule.
