.....are all the races moving North? It seems to be a growing trend for NHRA, IHRA and NASCAR! Look at Div.2 in the NHRA. There used to be several Winter Open races down South, now there is nothing! IHRA tracks in Div. 2 are all 1/8 mile and no Winter races. Neither sanction's Southeastern Division have anything going on in the Winter. It just doesn't make any sense! There are no IHRA National events south of Rockingham at any time of the year! 5 of their 11 National events are in Michigan and Canada for Gods sake!
And now NASCAR has new races in Mexico and Canada! What the hell is going on?

thats funny, dad and I just got through talking about this, We lost Bristol div race along with Montgomery for spring and winter. We ran our first IHRA race since 1999 back in June because it was 7miles away, but it was 1/8mile on a 1/4 mile track Stephen Johnson #2162 Horace Johnson #2167 SS/D 427 Ford Fairlane NHRA-IHRA Record Holder |

What's wrong with 1/8 mile?Oh yeah I forgot, the slower guys can judge the finish line easier. We dont want to make it too easy for them.

I would say it has something to do with making a dollar... you know, population (what areas support drag racing), car counts, advertisement, weather, ect. ect. There is one of the best tracks in the country just 44 miles south of my home. Guess what, you can put on the same event there you can in Michigan, except you can't draw the spectators or the cars. So, it's all about using a dollar to make a dollar.

Mr. gemlin, I guess you don't know me. I drive a 14 second FWD Stocker! I don't know how 1/8 mile is advantageous to the slow car, the spot is shorter and gives the other guy less time to screw up while waiting! 1/8 mile is ok once in a while but every division race is 1/8 mile! Not nearly as fun as 1/4 mile IMO. Jim

Mr 14 sec.FWD racer,
You must be crazy.I guess you dont think it's easier to tighten it up when an A car is coming at you 20-25 mph slower in the 1/8 than the1/4.You also have the option of moving up North if you dont mind the expense of buying a snow blower. Ed F. 15 T/SA |

It just takes us a while to catch on to the good stuff. Just look what happened when they let out the news that Krispy Kreme was comin'!! We're just starving for good entertainment up here....have you ever watched the CBC?
Heck, even the NHRA is thinking Mexico and Canada. (allegedly)

Mr. gremlin, crazy? Of course I'm crazy! I race a FWD car! BTW I ran an "A" car at an 1/8 mile race once. By the time I figured out what CD I wanted to listen to, I was going through the traps and he almost sucked me into his lane when he passed me! Maybe someday you can teach me to drive the finish line so I can have more fun.Ed, I love your car! Being different is cool! Jim
Dave, You mean you only just recently got Krispy Kreme?! What did your cops eat before that?Jim
