Sunday at Havana
Day two of our excursion to Central Illinois Drag Way we were favored with "chamber of commerce weather " and Mitch (Dr. Hook) and his guys had the starting line hooking like a 2000 hook trot line! Twenty one cars showed up for Sunday with Gary Jenkins qualifying #1 with a 5.700! Jeff Torbeck squared off with Ben "the Professor" Baer who went -.015 red to advance Jeff to round two. Dyno Dave Livesey par laid starting line advantage to a win light over Lynn Serena 5.75 vs 5.72. Chris ( you know "the pretty one") Gerakaris use a slight hole shot to stop Jim Glosson 5.80 vs 5.78. Papa Jim Gerakaris manhandled Rob Bush 5.689 vs 5.678 Then came the battle of the Larry's with both cutting 00 lights but luck was not with Mr. Wasielewski as he posted an aggravatingly close 5.693 to Bernshausen's 5.705. Fast Eddie Cook made the best of the hard earned opportunity to face Capt'n Pat LaMont as his .011 /5.71 was too much for Pat's .021/5.72. Tim Foley didn't cut a perfect light this time he faced Chad but his.021/5.708 was enough to best Chad's .012/5.726! 😳 Brett Edwards 5.79 was no match for Chris Sullivan's 5.77 Tom Jamison had a competition single as Brian Mileham broke just before we were called to the staging lanes And #1 qualifier Gary Jenkins had a bye. Round two: saw Dyno Dave use a 5.72 to cover a late leaving Mr. Jenkins' 5.70. Tom Jamison went -.004 red 5.703 to advance young Mr. Sullivan whom posted a .013/5.686. Papa Jim Gerakaris when a tick to fast at 5.691 to advance Larry Bernshausen at a 5.711. Fast Eddie did like wise as he carded a .003 to quick 5.6971 to advance Mr. Torbeck @ 5.709. Chris Gerakaris and Tim Foley both had 00 lights but Tim was just a tick to quick @ 5.692 and Gerakaris had a near perfect 5.702. Round 3: Dave Livesey's day ended when Jeff Torbeck uncorked a can of whoop *** on him in the form of a near perfect .006 light initiated 5.700! ( a .006! How do you get around that? Answer, you don't) Wow.😳 The battle of the Chris's was a double break out with Mr Sullivan using a 5.693 to win the math quiz over Gerakaris' 5.690. And Larry Bernshausen had a bye. The Semi's saw Jeff and Larry with nearly identical lights and Torbeck getting there first, by get this......5.702 vs a 5.708!😳 Chris Sullivan posted a.019/ 5.719on his bye. The final! Now Torbeck looked to be a favorite in the final as he was on the 5.70 index all day and in the final he had an excellent .002 light. But he didn't factor in "the luck of the Irish" as Jeff posted an agonizingly close too quick 5.6978(AAAGH,!) handing the win back to Sullivan's .018/5.71. With two wins and runner up in his first three MWSCS races it safe to say there's a new sheriff in town folks and his name is Chris Sullivan! Congratulations Chris!
