I was on Rt. 40 today and I saw what appears to be a new track under construction along side the highway. Anybody have any info on this?

Old track with a new owner and spending a lot of dollars on it. Concrete surface and walls with a new tower. Should be nice when it's complete

I raced there once many years ago. It was a total outlaw track. there was a huge fight between the then owners son and some racers. Police were called people were injured and hauled away in ambulances. Track prep was terrible. I never went back. I Prefer to go to Brainerd in Ga. even though it is further. Maybe I will have to check it out again.

Thanks for the info, looks like a brand new facility, they must be putting some big bucks into it.

This track has been there a long time, but a lot of people are surprised to see it when passing, as it sits right off the expressway. A racing friend of mine, jim howe, that I raced with back at Detroit Dragway in the 1970's, moved down to the area and ran the track for all these years. The only problem with the track the time I was there a few years ago, was a lot of rocks in the pit area got carried to the staging lanes on the slicks. While getting ready to make a run, I made the mistake of circling behind a car doing a burnout, instead of waiting till he was finished, and got a nice door "ding" in my new paint job. But I always thought Jim tried hard and did the best he could running the track. Am glad to see it getting turned into a premier race track.
