I found a thread in the Racer Build section on a "Peanut Port" 454 build interesting. With the numbers and RPM higher than I thought and rated at only 310HP and 454 CI my be a good combination after all. Drawbacks are the flat top pistons plus open chamber heads therefore the low compression ratio of 8.2
I have one of these 454 out of a some truck, can't remember. My question is how come only the 1990-1992 SS454 Pick up is the only one in the guide with the engine. I know they came in a bunch of other years non SS trucks? How come some years only list the S10? Is there a process to get a truck/car listed n the NHRA Classification guide. Thanks for any info. Does anybody know if this combo came in any passenger car? I don't think so.. Will Lamprecht 65 Impala I/SA 396/325 in progress |

I believe those are the only years that engine is installed in a 1/2 ton pick-up.

Then I thought maybe I ought to Google that. I tried 85 C10 454, and at least one came up, as original. I don't think they sold many that way. Will, the 75 small port GT combo is a rather strange, one of a kind situation. Not suggesting it should be removed, but rather all in, including the original application. All of the S10's are not in the guide either. Don't forget..The 90 454 p.u. can use a straight across .430 lift cam. It might be okay in I/SA

Chevrolet pickups were available with 454s through 2000. 86 was the last carb. What made the 90-92 SS454 unique was the trim package, the HD 3-speed trans and a unique 3.73 geared 14-bolt rear end with 5x5 bolt pattern semi floating axles.
