Default question about winnings

I have a question since I don't race but have learned more about class racing since I have started reading on here. My love for stock/super stock has been enhanced by reading about the people I only saw flying by on the track. My question is how do you guys do financially with a win? Say for question sake e-town this month since that is my favorite race. Does local guys have a different take on a national event win than does Mr. Fletcher who tours? Do you just hit the nationals for he trophy or is the money worth the crap nhra puts you through sometimes?

For me, I could get runner-up at a LODRS race and, if I am lucky, I *might* break even for the weekend.

Racing = not worth it anymore. Which is the main reason I quit, at age 27, in 2007.
