I am thinking of going to the Vegas April races, a couple of friends will be competing. Is there a OK hotel that is close to the track? Kind of on a budget and have NO interest in staying in the down town area.

There are a few decent hotels on Craig Road at I-15, but they aren't what I'd call cheap. The Cannery is a possibility. There's also a Hampton Inn that I've stayed in the last few years and will be at again in April. I would avoid the places near Nellis AFB on Craig Road. I've stayed at the Boulder Station on the Boulder Highway. It's a pretty easy drive from there to the Speedway, and much more desireable than other motels near Nellis.

There is a Super 8 motel across from the gate to Nellis AFB on Las Vegas Blvd
it is clean, priced OK and there is a good coffee shop on the premises for breakfast. www.super8.com There are others, but that is the closest to the track that I know of.

One "nice" thing about Super 8 or Motel 6 you can make reservations and still
cancel them the day of if you need to cancel. The Cannary Hotel Casino is very nice, it is the host hotel for Mopars at the Strip March 22, 23,24 and for that function is sold out by the beginning of the year. Even the Super 8 motel I mentioned in my first post is sold out that weekend because that is also Sping Break week.

I was looking at a map and found downtown only about 12 miles from the track.
You can sometimes get a good deal at the Golden Nugget a real nice and safe place to stay.
