Whew....had to really think for a bit and that hurt something ....LOL. Yeah that was me. I was driving a friends 64 361/265 HP Sport Fury off and on. He was a bad driver and he asked me to drive so why not ! Thats about all I remember other than I won with a hole shot against a blue 61 Pontiac. I beat the same Pontiac at Capital Raceway a week or two later. We got trophies for class wins back then. Can you imagine.....class run offs at a local track every weekend !!!!! His car was bone stock. No slicks, no gears (3.23's) closed exhaust, etc. He never got serious about drag racing and he got married. End of his racing days....LOL. We had a lot of cheap fun back in those days. My car was a 65 with a 426 street wedge and I think I got beat that day with mine. I got beat quite a bit.....Heh Heh. I had M/T headers, 3.91 gears, and a few other things done. Never had the engine apart though. I was drafted in the Army later that winter and sold mine. I bought a 66 Vette 327/350 HP after the Nam vacation and cruised the Louisville Ky, street sene.

Hey Terry, Speaking of a blue 61 Pontiac. I heard that Mike Miatico has taken over Capitol Raceway after all these years and said he was going to "make it like it used to be". How old is he anyway, I know he ain't no spring chicken. I thought he was old in the 60's ----now I'm old so what the hell does that make him. Maybe he's got oldtimers and thinks it's 1961, wouldn't that be a hoot--- who knows maybe he'll bring out the old 61 Super Duty Catalina.------ Hope nobody tells him!!-------Danny

Hi Dan......I had an email awhile back from the Cox's son who is bracket racing in Calif. talking about about the 61 SD of Mike Miatico's . I think he said Mike was 93 years young and STILL has the old Mickey Thompson Pontiac. Gezzzzz...those were good fun days but thats NOT the 61 I beat at Capitol and Aquasco. Mikes Pontiac was WAY faster than my 65 Plymouth. This was a lower class Pontiac that I ran in F/SA class (12.5 lb class in 1965) that was driven by a Don (or Ron) Roister(sp????). Do you remember him? It was a Catalina hard top not a Ventura and had a 389 with a "slim Jim" trans. Same color though with the 8 lug wheels and for the time it was set up with headers, gears, casler slicks, etc. I remember it pretty good because of winning the races against it. Its the only times I remember seeing it. What have you been doing? Im heading over to Tampa Friday for the National Street Rod Assoc. show with my coupe. Ive met a lot of good people at the shows but its not as much fun as racing USED to be. Just less expensive and a lot less work.....LOL.

Yeah, I knew it wasn't Mike, that SD ran C or D/SA if I remember right. You're thinking of Don Royster, he was shop foreman and later service manager for Star Pontiac.---- I've been in anger management off and on for about 10 yrs. and just got off probation and 100 hrs. of community service in July and allowed to leave the state so I'm doing pretty good. I probably have a hundred people I need to appologize for being an a** hole to but I'm working at it.--- I'm still putting in about 80 hrs. a week and taking care of my Pop who is 88 and living at home. It's just me and him, all the wives are gone and the boys have familys of their own. I have ten grandchildren the oldest 26 youngest 4. I looked you up on the map when I was in Ft. Myers last week and will be back down to Jensen Beach in Nov. --then down to Gainsville in Dec. with Craig's car and meet him there. Maybe we can get together on one of those trips and lie about any and everything. Street rods get together every Tues. night at Sears in Jensen Beach, about 200 of them. I've seen a couple people there from way back . Always look to see if you might be there. ----------- Danny

Oh come on Danny.....Your not that bad.....LOL. Your getting old like the rest of us. Your correct.....Don Royster was his name.....is he still alive? I remember he was some what older than me then. I think Mikes SD ran BB/SA at Capitol and B/SA at Aquasco. Mikes 61 SD wagon ran in D/SA at that time as I remember it and Sam Samuels ran C/SA in his 60 Starfire SD. But then Im getting old also. Is Bruce Conyers still around and breathing? He was the one I bought my first set of Caslers from off his 62 Red GP for my car. I will see if I can get over to where the show is in Ft. Meyers sometime when your down. Its about 1 and a half hours from me. Take care.

Vic, Yes the plan is to come to Mason Dixon the first of Nov. then Gainsville the first of Dec. ---- Mason Dixon is too much fun to pass up in our own back yard. Craig said he might fly up just to go to the Crazy Horse and **** with Cupp if nothing else. Danny

Star Chief-- Terry-- Star Chief but I'm pretty sure it was a Catalina post sedan. I got a REAL GOOD look at the rear quarter panel 2 weeks in a row at Capitol and I don't remember seeing any stars on it. I owned that red GP back in the early 80's--wish I still did. Sad to say I believe Norbert Holtzel( Tornado Wagon ex Mike Miatico baby blue 61 SD SW ) told me a while back that Bruce Conyers had passed away , I haven't seen or heard anything about Don Royster since about 1980. ------- Danny
