what is the minimum length tongue you can use with a motorhome without fear of hitting. (i am looking at a used trailer w/a 48 inch tongue) thanks

I like at least 54" and prefer 60"
besides the clearence the extra length is like putting a bar on a wrench to get better leverage (less stress on the rv) better too long than too short you can get a longer draw bar hitch to put the ball out farther but it puts more load on the hitch or even better is a trailer toad, will solve clearence and weight problems '
