Are there any Ford racers out there who've tried using a factory style TFI distributor on an older engine (i.e. 289, early 302) with carburetor(s) or non-ECU application????

I put a bracket/ strret car together for a friend a couple years ago and used the stock TFI dizzy with a MSD box and a start retard box. Seemed to work fine for him, It was a stick car with nitrous so I'm not sure how consistent it was but it ran hard for a 302. Low 12s at over 122 mph.
