I'd like to start our first off by saying Thank You to Bobby Smith for letting me announce. I rolled my ankle early in the week and didn't feel up to racing myself. When I arrived, I asked Bobby who was announcing, and he said he was going to, so I voulenteered to do so myself. I don't regret it at all!
There was a Stock/Super Stock Combo race, Top/Mod Combo Bracket race, Motorcycle Bracket race, all coupled with fun and grudge racing. I've never called a race before, but I had a blast doing so. There were just shy of 500 spectators on the grounds and they stayed up on the fence until the last pair went down the track! The Stock/Super Stock race was a heck of a show! The race showcased some of NHRA and IHRA's best and was a 5 round race (with no buy backs!). After the smoke cleared, Bud Rowe of New Bern NC took out Steven Rowe in an all team Rowe Racing Engines final round. They were identical on the tree and both DEAD ON the dial in the final. Bud was dead on with a 2, Steven was dead on with a 9 for a .007 MOV at the stripe. The Top/Mod combo was a great race as well. The car count was low, but it worked out where a Top car did have to face a Mod car in the final round. Dalton "Scooter" Pearsall took out his team mate, Richard Alford Jr in the final round to take home the winner's purse. Scooter was .009 and .011 above to Alford's foot fed .007 and .016 under to light the W. There was also a 7.00 Hot Rod Shootout that saw Johnny Cobb in his 1966 Chevy II wagon take out D Hall's 68 Camaro in the final. Hall was .003, but broke out by .009 as Cobb drove to a 7.011 for the victory. As you all know, I am a diehard racer and KDS is my home. I've spoken with Bobby, and he is going to allow me to put on a race or 2 in the near future. I will be the promoter and in full control at these events. We are currently looking at dates in June and July to put on a Top ET and Mod ET bracket race, maybe coupled with another Stock/Super Stock combo race. I know money is tight right now, but I'd like to get some of your opinions on payout and such. I'm not looking to put on a 10,000 race, yet something more affordable with a generous pay back. I was thinking about: Top: $2,500 to Win $800 Runner up $200 Semi's $50 1/4's $65 Entry Fee, $50 buy back (1st OR 2nd ONLY) Mod: $1,500 to Win $600 Runner-up $150 Semi's $25 1/4's $55 Entry Fee, $40 buy back (1st OR 2nd ONLY) I'd also like to gaurentee both purses. I think it would be good to contest the event on a Saturday (starting after noon) and use the following Sunday for a rain date. I respect the opinion of each of you and would love to hear some input. Thank you all again that showed up for yesterday's event, I look forward to seeing you all again in the near future!
