This is from Sko Uno Drag Festival at Mantorp Park, Sweden, back in 1991. Drag racing is not very big in Sweden as you may know (even less in the rest of Europe) and it's almost never shown on TV.
The idea here was to compare the slowest class in drag racing to one of the quickest sports cars you could buy at the time, to show the viewers how fast a sport drag racing is. The race is about half way through the clip. Last edited by Strittan; 03-21-2010 at 06:03 AM. |

It looked like the Porsche ran a 13.49.If that's the case I could have gotten there first if I got the break of the tires. And that's with a 6 cylinder Gremlin.

Yep, that's the time, and 167 km/h (104 mph). I pretty much hate sports cars so I have enjoyed watching this MANY times, lol.
On a side note. When they're talking about how the tree works, you will see a Panasonic sponsored A/A altered for an instant. That's Michael Malmgren, who became the first non-American to win an NHRA national event in 1990. He is now a Pro Stock driver since 1992. Last edited by Strittan; 03-22-2010 at 05:33 AM. |
