I'm watching the rerun of the Barea$$-Jerkson auction from LV and all you see are
resto mods, clones, and "tribute" cars. What a crock of poopie.Doesn't anyone restore anything to any semblance of original anymore?

I guess it's a $$$$ thing too. What's a 318 challenger's value compared to getting a 440/6 driveline and assorted parts and calling it a "tribute" car?But these trolls aren't car guys anyway, just fat old rich guys with a, drinking problem/over active ego/stupidity/brain damage.Pick one or more.

Ed, Almost like the Factory putting a crate motor in a body and passing it off as a Stocker.

Ed - what else would you call a car that has the wrong engine or other parts ? Some of these people are car guys that enjoy original cars . If you have never been there you should - it's probably the best car show on the planet .............yes , there are some low lifes doing business at this auction but not all are bad .

Unfortunatley someone else has pointed out.....the old man has a very correct RT (real RT) Real FC7 (plum crazy) with Factory Luggage rack and A.M. 8 track, not #s matching with a 6 pack in it, very very correct , and very very very nice car.....hes asking 55k no takers....If I threw and XV front suspension in it and a 6.1 hemi EFI I could get that and then some....stupid I agree, but its what selling....my 72 318 Sad mouth chally is getting a twin turbo 5.7 hemi and the Viper 6 speed that came out of the DP , I couldnt get 20k for the Chally original Ill get over 30 finished and have 2 buyers trying to get me to finish it asap.

Hes also got an all correct, # matching RT Convertible 1970 383 car, no tribute ..... not a CLONE....dont know why people insist on calling a clone a "tribute" but same thing for that car...55k and no takers. Then again the last *** paid 120k for this car at BJ about 3 years ago....the old man paid what hes asking from him , they claimed it as a nut and bolt resto....the car is actually just a repaint, its actually a very very nice original with just paint....all interior is original and there is no repro on the car anywhere Maybe I should pull the motor and put a twin turbo 5.7 in it.....lol..

The problem right now is the economy and money is tight.
Some people have money but are holding on to it.
I think the Barrett Jackson in January may be a little slower than last year but the high rollers show up for that one so who knows. If you go on Sunday you can tell more of the real economy as all the high rollers are done on Saturday night. January of 2009 Sunday sales were really poor. The people that had a Sunday date in the afternoon really got took.
I like to go to watch the people and some bidding wars. Like was said earlier it is the best car show in the world to go and see.
A few years ago on Friday late afternoon a couple of guys with girls on their arms who could have been their daughters got into a bidding war for a 57 T Bird and it went to the $130,000's before one gave up. Everyone there at the time was just laughing and shaking their heads. The car was not that nice and most of the people I was with thought the car should have gone for $50,000 to $60,000 but went for over twice that just because a couple of guys had a little to much to drink and had their ladies to impress.
It is a lot of fun to go to and I would recommend everyone go at least once to see the spectacle.
There is much more than the cars to see.
I would love to have the Plum Crazy Challenger!!!!!
It would look really good in my garage. I just need to win the lottery first.

It all comes down to "supply & demand".

I think calling them "tribute cars" sounds stupid also. But, at least they're not trying to pass them off as originals like was done quite often a few years ago. At least they're being honest about what they are. Maybe it's because buyers are now a lot sharper than they used to be.

And why do people buy "tribute cars"? Because they're driveable. They're fun. You can relive your youth. Some of the originals are so valuable, you can't drive them for fear of hurting them. You're afraid to turn them more than 3,000 rpm for fear of launching an original numbers matching engine.

With "tribute cars" you can drive them like they were meant to be driven when new. If you should scatter a motor, no big deal. You put another in and it's still worth what it was before.
