That is a VERY smart promotion that every track owner and division director should be getting behind, as well as NHRA.
They (NHRA and track owners) should be putting free tickets to LODRS races for that event in the business of every single sponsor who has a sign on the track. And giving the sponsor a sign of some sort to let people know the tickets are there. Then they should put free tickets in every auto parts store for at least a 30 mile radius around the event. A nice, decent sized color flier with pictures and a schedule should be placed where ever the tickets are. Send some fliers and some free tickets to the automotive repair shops in that same area as well. Consider other bonuses as well. A free medium drink with a burger, hot dog, or sandwich and fries. A free meal with an event or track t-shirt. Go to the local tv and radio stations, get a "grudge race" going between two "air personalities". It'll get the track and the event some free air time. And with some help from the free ticket idea, it might just get some air time "showing" a decent crowd. When people see a crowd somewhere, they consider going to see what the "fuss" is about. All of that stuff has been done, and done successfully, it is nothing new. A little promotion goes a LONG way, especially in tight economic times. It is long past time that some of these track owners and NHRA realize that they are competing for the entertainment dollar of the public against all sorts of other enterprises. NHRA needs to give the track owners the tools they need to compete with, and the track owners need to use those tools aggressively.
