Rumor has it VMP not on NHRA 2010 National Event Schedule....Charlotte getting a 2nd date! Wonder if it's true, guess we'll find out at Indy. So that means D-2 has 5 races in it's neighborhood while D-1 gets cut to the normal E-Town/Maple Grove races if this happens to be true.
The Agent got word this morning from one of his most reliable sources from the Charlotte area, who said that Bruton Smith’s drag racing “Speed Palace” would indeed be getting a second NHRA date in 2010. According to the source, VMP will lose its spot on the NHRA calendar (again) and that date will be transferred to Z-Max Dragway at Charlotte. This bit of info is more likely true than the report in CompetionPlus.com that Memphis Motorsports Park would lose its date, especially considering that the Dover Downs Entertainment employed track manager at Memphis has said that the track’s contract with the NHRA for a Full Throttle series race is in force through 2010. It also makes sense considering the small crowds that the Virginia track has drawn at NHRA or IHRA national events over the years. VMP might have given up its NHRA date to Smith in return for some form of contract buyout by Smith with the blessings of the NHRA. Doing that would make sense on a lot of different levels. The State of Virginia paid for all of the improvments to VMP to get the Nationals back. I would think VMP would have to repay the money if they let the Nationals go
