At what point do you folks think it is necessary to weld up your axle tubes? And what do I use? Also are one of those fancy rear covers with the preload bolts for the differential caps really necesary? My current 60ft. is 1.54. Thanks. I also run an 8.5 gm diff.

The girdle covers are a real plus on a light housing. .... They not only help keep the caps from deflecting, they also help keep the housing from spreading and losing preload and increasing backlash. ........As the man said "pay me now or pay me later"! ...........Tom
