Smile Jumper boxes are illegal

According to wesley robertson all stock elim cars may not use jumper boxes or any other form of assistance to start a stock car. I was DQ sunday morning at the D4 race at the motorplex when I used a jump box to start my car. Wesley told me you cant do that and made me shut off my car. He then told me now start your car and race without the box. Total BS The rule book shown to me by chuck Nelson said 8:5 all cars must be self-starting. rollers/and or push starts prohibited. I does not take much sense to figure that this means the car must have its own starter motor. All tech officials were present,Including Wesley, when chuck told me this means no jumper boxes. No one there spoke up for me. Craig hutchison said that the tech ruling will stand and there was nothing he could do about it. I said you can give me back the money you took from me. he said no . but he would appeal the decision for me.

Chuck Nelson quoted you the wrong rule, Section 8.5 is in the General Regulations. However, if you go to Section 9A - Stock Cars, Electrical: 8, Batteries, it reads: ...be of sufficient capacity to start car at any time.

The alternator also have to work for it to be legal... it's not illegal to have a fresh battery though....

See the post by SSDiv6 above. What he has in bold print is the part of the rule that applied in your case. I hate to see anyone lose or be DQ'd that way, but it is the rule.

Seat belts inthe rear would be a pretty poor argument to apply here of course, "even if you were(hadtobe) there to pull that intellectual nugget out" but the starting thing is a rule. If it wasn't there would be someone stretching the show out. Look at all of the Jr dragsters with the battery carts. Imagine if Stock and superstock had that going on in the staging lanes.. It would look like NASCAR pit road

Seriously, I had a similar thumping happen to me recently and it was in a Fun race, not even any sanctioned deal and was not allowed to push start. I broke a starter in the lanes at St.Louis Open going to Top Stock first round. They called us in so I didn't have time to change it. I asked the person that I was racing if he cared if I got a "push" start since I was driving a stick car and he didn't care, but Jay said no way. I would have not figured this was that big of a deal. Especially for what amounts to a fun race with no points, but it is in the rule book, and NHRa is paying attention. It sucks, but it is a rule. I agree about the battery deal, if it ever got close on juice, having a fresh spare that you swap out would be a good alternative if you had a bad battery or some other problem. Since the quality of the small gel and dry batteries have improved, it is pretty easy to find a good battery that can take some abuse though so maybe it is a non issue if you shop the right battery in the future. I bought a "Rock" battery last year and it runs the fan, water pump everything and has no problem keeping up with an east coast alternator.

Like they are enforcing the helmet and shield tape blinders the Pros are STILL using?
Jason Line was the only one I saw with a "clean" helmet and visor at Vegas....

Sorry for the hi-jack, I think not being able to jump a car off within a 1 or 2 minute "call" period is pure BS, especially if you are not at the ready line or in the water box.....you should be able to do anything within reason to get going behind the ready line.

Jeggie didnt have his blinder on anymore. Neither did a few more as I noticed last night. The other thing is I raced for 2 years and hardly ever charged my battery at the track because my alternator worked. Imagine that, maybe they should take the battery cable off and see if the car runs Ill bet 90% wont.
