The CJ's numbers from this moring: 60' = 1.418, 330' = 4.022, 660' = 6.185, @113.68mph, 1000' = 8.052, 1/4 = 9.623 @ 143.57mph. I think that is the most mph run by a Stocker at an nhra event. How many times has this car been raced?
one quick look at the mph and 60' tells the story. They aren't even leaving hard.

If you multiply a cars ET x it's MPH you come up with a number that can be used to kind of evaluate the cars on track performance.

The higher the number the more the combination is either spinning the tires.....leaving very soft....or slipping in the driveline...

The lower the number is usually is where Stockers are.......hooked up....leaving hard....not much top end(MPH) due to cam and head limitations.....

Average is 1330 for a bracket type car.
Stockers are often under 1320
That Mustang run is at 1380......and it's not slipping the driveline or spinning the tires...

1.41 60' is very slow for a 9.6 ET

My assumption is that those cars are capable of much quicker ET's....

I am just a casual observer on these cars. The MPH is the indicator of HP......and they have a lot and it does not take a rocket scientist to figure that out!

I am going to go out on a limb here, but a lot of you made predictions and one of dominance of the class, sorry I don't see it.

Has any driver one more than one National or Divisional race? Has any driver one a Divisional or National Championship? Are there more than 5 showing up for 2 races back to back?

These new CJ's have done nothing but get themselves a bunch of HP added to themselves. I agree that I believe they have a lot more potential but as many as there are and under different drivers/groups, even the competition between themselves will get even more HP added.

I think there is a lot for them to learn and the sanctioning body to learn and I think they will come to an understanding soon.

Why don't all of you guys who have problems with the new CJ's tell the owners of these cars how you feel. Quit griping and let the AHFS work. How many of you who have a stock eliminator car runs in AA or A or has a car that could qualify number one?

Oh yeah, before you flame me no I don't have a stocker but did have SS car. Reading some of these posts reminds me of politics.

Since NHRA opened up the AA/S & SA classes for cars that would have been previously factored "too low" for A, ie under 8lbs per HP, that opened up the possibility for the "new" race package" cars, as well as some older cars that were under the 8 lb thresh hold, like the 64 Ford Fairlane ThunderBolt, and the 427 2x4 barrel 66-67 Fairlanes, as well as several others from Mopar & GM, I believe. As for the seperate "forced induction" classes some are asking for, nobody seemed to get bent out of shape when the FWD Turbo MoPars were always qualifying at the top in Stock, maybe because these "lower class" cars didn`t concern most of the upper class racers, and due to inconsistancy, didn`t prove to be a major threat once eliminations were under way.

Rory,

In 1965 the A990 Hemi cars were rated at 425hp as was the 1964 Max Wedge yet it was a SS car compared to the Stock class Max Wedge and they weighed the same. The Thunderbolts were rated at 425hp and weighed about the same as the Mopars. All of these cars came with full street equipment, do the Mustangs come with street equipment.

The 1968 Hemi A bodies came with no street equipment and were purpose built race cars...just like the Mustangs....and they went straight into SS, so why aren't the Mustangs in SS?

Larry,

Excellent point.

Jim,

I think the big difference is the Mustang has all the "street legal" stuff, except the mufflers, tires and most importantly the VIN. I personally believe it is a legal issue that you know if the stuff was on it someone would try it on the street and be involved in something leading back to Ford. I personally would like them to be in SS, but that is my thoughts not the thoughts of NHRA or Ford. I do like seeing them and the technology it brings. I think it forces NHRA to look to the future.

The only motor remotely close to the cj that is available in a street car is the Shelby, which is rated at 540 hp.
