The All Star in New England pays more than that.

Forget about NHRA Sportsman ever being an entry level deal again as long as this points meet scam is perpetrated.

All other racers do is complain to each other about any issues we may have and it goes no further than that > LOL I used to try and get some issues solved with NHRA but as Jeff Tueton knows no Support > ala His Sportmans association. I race for fun don't anymore care about the purse ,now going to keep working hard as usual with my company selling so i can race and also will be taken Social Security in december as I will hit the big 66 years of age so all you racers go easy on me on the starting line lol

Realistically, small car count races with no buybacks and paying out $100 to 2nd rnd winners eats up the money really fast. If you go with graduated purses, guys will complain that they don't know what they're running for until they get to the track, and if you distribute the money to the later rounds, (ie., start payouts with 3rd rnd win), you can bump up the round money significantly, but half as many people get paid.

Since we are talking about money with entry fees and purses, we all know that they are not up to par, yet people still participate. I refuse to go to points races because of what is mentioned in this thread, but I need a grade point to make into a National event. So they get me once a year. I can go to my local track, pay $40 to enter, you make it to the quarters, you get your entry fee back which is usually 3 rounds. I can't seem to understand how NHRA gets away with the payouts. Yet the guy at the top of NHRA makes $700k a year for not even turning a wrench.
NHRA management is on a gravey train and they know it!

Seems like a lot, but consider the cost of three days of track rental to contest one event, advertising, employees, and both the track and the sanctioning body want to make money on the event. How much should the track and the sanctioning body net on an event?

Let's take the old Moroso bracket championship races, there where about 350 cars that paid $100. to enter and the pay out was $5k to the winner, $2500 to R/U, $500. to semi, $125. to the quarter and $100 to the eight with free entry to next years race for one day to the 16th. Moroso still made a bunch of money, NHRA is just raping the racers with the pay out that they have in place.
NHRA bracket finals in SGMP about 3 years ago, not sure of the entry because the track paid for it, but they only paid $100 to the semi for sportsman. That is why there weren't as many cars there last year and they had buy backs.

Is it greed? Is it increased operating costs? I bet it costs twice as much to have a points race then it used to. All the insurances, the escalating EPA costs. You have to pay people to work the event. Good Tech people, most guys here won't work for 5.00 an hr and why should they? What are the other expenses I'm missing? Electric, security, other things?
How much can it cost to run a bracket only race? Reduced tech compared to us, one day operating cost. Unfortunatly it is not 1985 anymore. Our dollar is worth nothing, the government sticks their hand in our pocket constantly . These times are not the best, and it's not helpIng our cause in trying to supplement our income with drag racing.

I could instantly supplement my income by not drag racing, but that wouldn't be any fun. Besides, where else could I have made friends like Pedigo outside of therapy.
