Thanks for answering that question for me. I wasn't trying to point fingers or anything like that, but I had never heard of a official being pulled for testing.

A few years back Ed got pulled for testing 3 races in a row. ( he has very long hair, perhaps not so random). He says he doesn't mind, nothing for him to worry about and only 15 minutes out of his day ... and a good safety measure.

Are you one of the guys: smoking pot in the woods, who live on pain pills, get so drunk the night before a race that you were still stumbling right before competition? Do I need to apologize if I don't want you lined up against my husband?

BTW. I don't care how hot it is, if you don't pee in 24 hours something is very very wrong. Get to the first aid station fast. (Yeah, the drug test gives you 24 hours to produce, So, don't wait until the last minute!)

"I decided to wait until the last minute, 'til the 23rd hour. I wasn't prepared to produce a sample -- an adequate sample,'' Guidera continued. " I was more than willing to but it just wasn't happening." quoting Matt Guidera

Honor and NHRA. Thats probably not the best combination of words.

As far as loosing your state issued drivers license, I'm not sure if NHRA has a stance on this matter. 20+ years ago at Gainesville, Bracket racer A had knowlege that Bracket racer B had his license suspended for having too many speeding tickets in a given amount of time (I was not either A or B). Bracket racer A pointed this out to a track official and asked if it was legal for him to be racing while his state issued drivers license was suspended. The official refered them to then track manager Bob Moore. Bob told them that Racer B's issues with the state of Florida DMV wasn't any concern of his or the track. If the racer was capable of holding a drivers license (legal age, etc.), then that's all he was concerned about.

To bracket race at RT66 you have to produce a valid driver's license, your d/l number has to be on the tech card.

I was bounced at Coles County 20 years ago because my work permit had no hours on it for Saturday or Sunday.

The drug test selection process is handled by an "Independant Drug Program Administrater"....this is usually a company that is hired and totally "independant" from NHRA...this is to take the favoritism from the process but still we all wonder how it is done.....also it states specifically in the rulebook that you MUST have a valid state or government issued drivers license to compete...no learners permit will be accepted, the only exception is obviously JR's...no if's and's or but's...so if your license is suspended for any reason it must be returned to the DMV until you serve your suspension, it is considered no longer valid until it is returned to your posession......no license?...no driving, that simple....

magnumv8;

That may be the proceedure in Pa., but here in Fla the last I remember the state will send you a notice that your license has been suspended, but you do not necessarily hand over your license, unless it is taken by a law enforcement officer. I know my brother had his license suspended several years ago because of a lapse in insurance coverage on his vehicle, and his license was not taken until he was involved in a accident and the officer ran a check on his license.

Now about the "Independant" company that handles the drug testing at NHRA events. I really doubt they are doing this for free out of the goodness of their hearts. They must be paid for this service by someone. Maybe NHRA? I'm not making any accusations here, but I am reminded of the fact that a dog rarely bites the hand that feeds him.

Honestly, I'm not trying to stir up any controversy here. I have learned alot by reading the responses from everyone, like Shelly telling us how Ed got chosen for testing at 3 races in a row, and Michelle telling us about the Safety Safarri member that was called in for testing. The responses have been very interesting and eye-opening.

Hey Joe....

All states are pretty much the same as for the procedure....you are sent a letter telling you of your suspension and in the fine print they request you to "surrender" your license (mail it to the DMV)...if you don't you get lost in the shuffle and you are on your honor until you get caught or they do a back check and find out you didn't do it....you read it in the papers all over the country people getting involved in accidents that are driving under a suspended license...it is a good way to lose everything you may ever own ( I have a judgement against a suspended driver for hitting a vehicle I owned)....it comes out of your pocket since insurance will not cover you....can you imagine the liability NHRA would face if a driver at an event "accidently" hit a spectator and killed them in the pit area and they find out he was under a suspended license?....especially when the rulebook is so specific about having a license to compete.....everyone knows "stuff" happens,but if you have rules you need to come up with a way to properly enforce them.....

Yes,the drug testing must be handled by an outside group in order for it to be done properly and technically without bias, since it must be done in a "controlled" procedure from sample to testing to avoid contamination or sample mix-ups...now this all changes once a positive test comes back, you will never be a random test again, you would have to supply a sample whenever they decided to ask you for one(rulebook specific again) .....
