I have been in tier one and tier two automotive supply for nearly fourty year and a drag racer for longer than that. The merge would be outstanding, MoPar has always built great race cars and GM could build all the tow vehicles!!

Thank God mopar designed the Challenger before the GM engineers got their hands on it.

While at this year US Nationals all the Ford Sportsman racers were invited to a get together over on the Pro side to meet and mingle with the new Sportsman Rep from Ford. We were ushered in and they had a great meal waiting for us along with the keynote speaker from Ford, who I can't seem to remember much about including his name. He told us of how he and Ford greatly appreciated our years of loyalty and said that a "new leaf was going to be turned over" and that Ford was going to give $5000.00 to all the Sportsman Racers who drive/own Fords. All we had to do was get 12 people to buy New Fords Products in that given year while using our personal "Pin" number, that would be assigned by Ford and we would have the $5000.00 in a Parts Credit credited to our name. Even though Ford makes nothing for my FE motor except maybe oil filters, it sounded great at first, but since I've been in the car business since Noah came over on the boat, I found myself being taken back to when I was selling New and Used cars for Hemphill McCombs Ford in San Antonio and realized that this was just another Sales Meeting!!!

Then came Bob Tasca III who really is a nice guy, but sounded like the many Sales Managers that I have listened to in the past. Then to really put the icing on the cake, out comes John "The Force" himself and away he went on a 20 minute verbal autobiography of how his first car was a ole' Fairlane (I almost teared up at that point), he went on to tell us that Ford really needed our help and support if they were going to continue to support the Racers.

It was at that moment that I realized the serious situation that Ford was in and also the thin ice that Tasca and Force found themselves. Where were they during the good times? Hell I have been selling, driving and racing Fords all my life (64 years so far) and I never heard from anybody from Ford, John Force or Tasca I, II or III during the last 48 years telling me how much they appreciated the Sportsman Racer and our loyalty to the Blue Oval.

Now I have never been accused of being the "brightest bulb on the tree", but in retrospect realized that if things don't improve for the Big Three (or the Big Two) there won't be any money for Mr Tasca or Mr Force or anyone else.

I hope that everything works out for all the Companies involved, and especially all the Racers themselves. This will be a very interesting 18 month period in my opinion, and hope all of you weather the storm.

Enjoy today!!

Later RJ

Hey R.J.

Good post.
If Ford really wanted to "Git-Er-Done" they should have gotten Carroll Shelby to be the keynote speaker for that shindig. He would have rallied the troops, got all the paperwork through, and made everything bigger and better for all the Ford racers!!! Ha!
