Default Re: LODRS (lack of) Payouts

The old argument was between paying NHRA and the alcohol cars, the tracks weren't making enough money to raise the purse. Now most tracks do not have the alcohol cars, so the huge payout to them went away. Looks to me like they should have brought some of that money back into the other classes and increased those payouts. If something doesn't change in the way of payouts, less and less people are going to show up. Years ago, most everyone I know made more money, it cost a lot less to go racing, so we all justified it as having fun and didn't worry so much about the payouts. Now that most don't make the money they used to make, cost to go racing has increased, they need to start enticing the racers with better payouts for most to keep showing up. I find myself not going to races that for years always went to, but now I look at the potential return on investment and it just doesn't make sence.

As I recall the topic of this thread is exactly why I put on the original US Class Nationals the year before I had gone to the 5th reound at Indy and just happened to be at the payout window with GREEK a child hood hometown hero I grew up with and we compared checks he got $7000 and didn't even qualify, I got $500 for 5 rounds of SS he then advised me to quit S/SS and get a fuel car

if I get stupid enough to do it again,is anyone ready for another one? and WILL division 1 NHRA and ALL IHRA racers support it this time?

An absolute disgrace! Gentlemen we all know a select few in NHRA are taking home bags of cash! At the Maple Grove LODRS race this year Nhra officials didn't want track emplyees to share their catered lunch! Amen to what Mike Carr said!

Can you tell us who "word is" ? ..... Mr "BBF67"
Dick Weinle himself made the statement about not wanting alcohol cars at his LODRS. And if he had to have them he would not have a LODRS event.

Alex, yes yes yes we want another ClassNationals.

On the payout in Div. 5. They are not good unless you make it to the final. I noticed this a couple of years ago after making it to the 4th round at Earlville. I got $125 for the forth round and I had the same reaction as Jack. So, I quit going for a couple of years because I think if you do better than 87% of the racers in your class you should at least get your entry fee back. Bottom line is your right the payout sucks and we all do this for fun and that is why I went back.

To answer your question Mark. I believe the payouts in Division 5 still are (and have been for MANY years):
3rd round loss $100 and $25 added dollars per round after that until the final.

Also my opinion is support your local series (if you have one) because the payouts are usually allot more user friendly. Thanks Mark for reminding me!

Also NHRA has recieved raved reviews from racers on the new class format. I want to talk to the racers who love NO $ for class!!!! I also am very familiar with 5th rd and not getting entrance back. I agree payouts are embarrassing so they try not to post them. The Force show is all they are concerned with.

Belle Rose with strong class contingency can draw over 150 stockers! I saw it!

It's a shame for that kinda payout ! I really like to watch Stock and Super /Stock and have dabbled a little in S/St but I just bracket race and run the 6.0 and 7.0 stuff mostly. We have had a great year in the 7.0 class and since April we have won over $14K with a $10K win in April. Most of these races are just one day and you don't have to put up with the HRA crap! We thought about chasing S/ST in div2 but heck WHY when you can run a local 7.0 that pays $2k just about every week within 100 miles? I really hate it for you guys it would be nice if someone had the clout to have a program for you.Besides the low pay if you win you have to wait forever for your sticker money. Good luck maybe it will get better !

Ahhh....It's been awhile since we beat this horse...

Let's face it guys we all know it's all about the Wally & The Pictures in the National Dragster that we can take to work and show all our co-workers. If we were all smart we would run the small associations that are put together by people like Dave Ley, Mike Carr & Dave Casey here on the EC or the special Stock/SS Race that was put together at Numidia & Maple Grove but, we all know nothing ever makes sense especially when these events cost less to get in and pay just as much as a Divisional Event for less cars and less days at the track. You can get there on a Saturday run 2 TT & the Event in 1 Day rather then taking 3 days off from work just to find a decent "Parking Spot" and be treated like the "sand trap" by the officials.

I'm looking at a check for $100 dated 2003 for quarterfinals at a Nat'l Open that had 86 cars....wouldn't give them the satisfaction of cashing it....I hope it cost them more in reconciling their account each month....ha! Little things make me happy.
