I was lucky to have a friend Paul Ricci, who has a very fast SS/AM Avenger he had # 1426 and was really nice to have it transferred to me for super stock.

My first D4 stk number was part of my NHRA membership number. I let it expire once and got a new stk # but when I renewed my #'s last year they only renewed my S/C and S/P number and I didn't notice the stk number had been dropped. I haven't raced stock since 1989 so it's not a big deal other than for some reason we get attached to our competition number for some strange reason. My number for the dragster belonged to the origional owner of the dragster (4646) in which he never completed or raced. He passed at the age of 44 and his wife gave me a price on it that was way to low but she wanted to see one of his friends get it. She had turned down more money for the dragster than she ask me to give her for it. Because his number hadn't expired yet I had to have a copy of his death certificate and a letter from the widow in order for NHRA to release that number to me. Sorry for the long post but that is how I became 4646 and I hope that guy that got my old stock number is happy. I sure do miss it for some weird reason.

I have 473M now in S/S Stk & ET in both sanctions. Wanted 4730 because it was my first ET number, wasnt available, asked for the M for my last name initial. Hard part is you have make sure they understand "M" at fuel check. This a good survey, lot of cool stories.

When permanent numbers were issued in late 1973, prior to the 1974 Winternationals, Division 7 assigned numbers in blocks according to competition category. Super Stockers were given 73xx and Stock was assigned 79xx although as I recall, we could use the number in either category. The first Super Stock number issued was 7300 or 7301. For several years that system was followed and there are still several racers (besides yours truly) who still retain their original number. The system hasn't been used for many years and most of today's racers were never aware of it but the numbers show where the really old, "old-timers" are. A three-digit number in Division 7 is the badge of a late-bloomer.

Fun thread! There are some really neat stories being shared.
I used # 3426 for our Max Wedge nostalgia super stocker, which I also registered at one time for Super Street and Super Stock. I did use it a couple of times for S/ST, and we once had a pipe dream to run our '65 Dodge in S/S with a 426 street wedge. After giving up on the S/S dream, I posted on this board that I would make the number available to any Div. 3 SS/AH driver, for a small fee (lol!). Darrell Marvel offered me a couple of T-shirts and invited me to his bar-b-que at Indy for the SS/AH competitors. That was several years ago, and we have been helping Darrell at the US Nats, and have been friends ever since! Funny thing is, Darrell's old number was 3516, which we would have used "516" heads on our '65 had we ever built it for S/S... All it took was a phone call to the Division office to switch the number. If someone has a number you want, you might want to contact the racer - it's easy to switch if they'll give it up. BTW, NHRA Stock# 3426 belongs to fellow Max Wedge and Nostalgia Super Stock racer Jim Lavallo and his shiny red '64 Plymouth.

#4406 belongs to Jim Hale for both stock and super stock. He runs it on an awesome G/SA '67 Barracuda in stock - I'm pretty sure it's a 383 car. He used to use S/S# 4406 on his SS/AH Hemi Barracuda until he traded it for a '64 Plymouth S/S, also a Hemi I believe. Neither are 440-6 paks, but at least they're still in the "family"! |

In 1973, I had the NHRA number 27. Then in 1974, Ann Couch sent me number 2706 "the lowest stock number available". I still have it. BTW, does anybody out there have a couple of the original Busters Rebels decals?

My number is 3961...I paid for it in 2007. The intention is to be able to drive the old mans ride with conveinence of just placing a #1 on his #396.....and just win win win win....and then take off the 396...I have an ambition of winning the national championchip....I know I can! I love Stock Eliminator and all the competition....I have been following it since Alan Peters dominated way back when....I know what it takes

My first NHRA E/T number was J707. Strangely, I won my first race on July 7 of 07. I thought that was really cool. Now I apply for a Stock number, with no requests, and I get 7077. Could also stand for July 7 of 07. Too cool.
