Jeff,

The carb thing Adger was referring to is the needle valve and seat. A true Holley replacement would have a "large" screw head that is almost as large as the lock nut. The ones you have in the pictures has the needle valve the size of the threads.

I have put a few of those in myself and if I remember they adjust the opposite. Never did have any luck with those.

406's had cross bolted mains but i don't know about the screw in plugs....

Oh, I see what your talking about on the needle and seat. That's like what NAPA sells. I thought it was a wrong bowl issue.
I like these shoes. Waiting for my old "wafflle stompers" to come back.

I sure hope this isn't a reverse rotation engine!

Thanks, Ed.. ;~) B-W was who made the N-S for the Jiffy kits.... A long time ago I was told the Holley N-S design had a patent and couldn't be repo'ed. I'm wondering if those patents have expired?? I think the W-P on the front of the cam drive will tell you the way it rotates. Rotation may be marked on the cover. If not, pull the cover and check which way the rubber vanes in the pump are laying. If memory is right you could reverse the hoses on those pumps for Rev rotation. A long time ago I did a Chris Craft with 2 - 327 chevies and one was counter rotating. The prop will be cut for C-R,too... I'm pretty sure it was the Left (from back of boat) engine that was C-R... the props rotated inward if the old memory is working. The starter drive, Bendix will be backwards from a reg rotation, too. Chances are on a single engine application it is Std rotation. Happy New Year--- All!!

In re. to Kevins post, I worked in a boat shop for a while and saw quite a few MARINE side oilers and I don't believe they are the same as a car side oiler.

Side oiler block has a galley casted in block down the (SIDE OF BLOCK)
All 406's do not have cross-bolts, same bore as 428, and solid lifters only.
True marine carbs should have J-tubes in bowls even back then
Counter-rotate is only cam change and is PORT engine left from back of boat, was done mainly on Hi-po boats to help go straight-er,

My parents had 2 early 70's chriscraft boats with 427 salt water cooled engines in them.Even though they kept the boats on the ct river an hour from the ocean, the water takes its toll on the heads and block. Each of these boats had 2 427 motors in them, 1 reg and 1 reverse rotation. The rotation is a non issue to convert. There may not be any corrosion issues on Jeff's find because of where the boat is and how it was used. I know that the motors in my parents boats had cross bolts, but i don't think they were side oilers.

The first boat burned while in storage during the winter in a boat yard fire, we ended up selling the motors to an 427 ford guy.

The second boat was repowered with 454 gm motors, don't think those 427's were usable
