Jerry welcome back to Pure Stock.
Ping TarHeal who has a 2001 Vette in B/PS.
First go to the NHRA web site and grab the car specs and classification sheets.
Contact Mike Baker at IHRA to verify the HP and Class for PS?

Most normal street bolt on apply until you run under 11.50 requiring a Roll Bar.
All convertibles will need a Roll Bar.
So you will need a roll bar.

We are allowed a Blueprinted Cam.
Sometimes IHRA and NHRA will specify a different cam for your application.

Not sure why. Just the way it is!

Bullet Cams has been a key vendor who works with Mike Baker on specs and details.

Interesting good tune, gears, sticky tires and converter can get most cars running under the index.

Jerry...feel free to email me at work if you have more questions?

Jerry

If there was a way to get a hard top vette you would not need it.
At least until you grab power and start running 11.50s.

Needless to say when I bought it I didnt have this in mind but I thought it might be fun.
I still would like to street it some so I guess it depends on how far I want to go.
I did call Mike and he said it would be A/PS and it looks like 3320 with driver. He is looking at the specs said he would get back with me.

Contact Wolfe Racecraft in Fort Worth, Texas Jerry about a roll bar. I put one of their 6-point bolt-in bars in this summer and now we're legal to 10.0. Very easy to install, fit and finish was PERFECT, and the whole job took less than 8 hours. You'll need to weld the bars that come up from the cargo area to the main hoop (Wolfe provides bolts for them) to be NHRA/IHRA legal but with a convertible that will be easy (as will the installation).

With a good set of headers, converter, gear, tune, CAI and lighter wheels and drag radials (or slicks) that will be a competitive car. If you wanted to get really serious and put a cam in it and go crazy it would flat fly.

We can run 1 second under the B/PS index and still drive the car on the street with the AC, etc. all still operable.

Feel free to contact me if you have any questions. We've done a lot of research on the Corvette and LS platform and can lead you in the right direction to what works and what is a waste of time and money.

Thanks for the info Scott, especially the part of bolting in the roll bar, its hard for me to picture the rear bars in the convertible, not much room for the angle ? I have watched you progress with yours.

As I was typing my earlier response Jerry I was thinking I'm not sure how the rear bars would look or work on a convertible. I've never owned one and honestly have never inspected one closely. I do know though that Wolfe makes one specific for that so it can be done. I can't emphasis enough how nice their bar was or how easy it was to install; and I'm not the brightest bulb in the pack.

I would love to get my hands on a LS2 or LS3. The LS crowd raves about how much more power those make so you shouldn't have any trouble running that index. We ran a couple tenths under before we even put headers on the car and it still had the factory heavy wheels. They respond very well to mods.

We're currently on a mission to run 9s in street trim with the stock bottom end and a little nitrous so I'm not sure how much Class Racing we will do but it's still near and dear to my heart and I will always follow it closely. Maybe one day we will build another LS1 Pure Stocker since my wife drives the Corvette most of the time now and I don't get to drive much.

Thanks Jerry and to you as well. Keep us posted on your progress; I'm very interested in seeing how competitive the LS2 can be.

Seems if you put a little skin in the game the Pure Stockers come out to play.

As for blowers ..do not think that will happen.
Unless maybe a certain turbo 4 Tbird decides to run PS..
Right now keeping a Stock Spring is our saving grace.
For all the conversation it keep our cars reliable!

Sure would like to up the $$pot and get help from others next year.
We got a lot of good press last year!

I didn't think turbos were allowed in pure stock
