Smile Re: INDY quota is 200 for S/SS

BIG win for NHRA. A good way to pick up monies lost from low attendance.

Un effing believeable!
Over 50 people per class spend the $360.00 entry fee, and over $100.00 per crew member to go there without a chance in Hell of winning class or qualifying?????
They could drive there in a 30 MPG car instead of 10 MPG towing and be treated like royalty in the Top Eliminator club for less money!

I'm getting older and life is passing by, I could care less how much the entry fee is and I'm as cheap as they come. Being a participant and being apart of the race just can't be replaced by just watching from the side lines. It's about living and enjoying life while you can. No one has an expiration date marked on the bottom of their foot.

Please explain how this differs from "the good old days" when there were routinely more than 200 Super Stock and Stock entries at Indy and to my knowledge, the field size has always maxed out at 128 (not to mention the late '60s when it was a 32 car field).

Supply and demand. The initial quota was 160. It filled up incredibly fast so 20 more spots were added. Those spots went in about 48 hours so 20 more have been added. With more than 3 weeks before the start of the event, I think everyone is blown away that there is this much interest in class racing. I'm grateful that I booked my travel for a Tuesday arrival. I'm not missing this.

This is going to be my first indy experience, and I am glad they expanded the quota. More cars make for better racing. I am very excited that my first trip to indy will be the biggest event in many years.

100% agree. I love to see how many stock and super stock cars are going and wish I was one of them. I'll have to wait until next year for my first Indy (as a driver), hope it's just as big then.

Good luck Cooter, and have fun!

You only walk once on this earth so you might as well enjoy what you can and by opening the fields up it allows racers to do their bucket list. I know that I will not qualify but I also will have 61 other racers in the non qualifier locker room with me. I plan on enjoying every minute that I'm there even if I just get 5 passes and put the car back on the trailer.

Does this mean we need more beer for the Friday A/S Shootout Awards? The pressure is on now. Thursday is the NHRA Sportsman thing (byob I think), Mopar after NHRA for the chosen people, and Friday for the beer party. I'm not sure about others. Frito, when is the AH thing? Can I get an invite? I got to round up my "Hospitality Handling Group". They live in Layer Lane up in the middle of the pits. Don't ever wander up there if you ain't thirsty.
