If its something less obvious ( suspected acid heads or wrong pistons, light crank, etc) then I would only protest him if it were someone in my own class, and only if i was sure. Something grey area or unstated, I'd say is probably racers just being creative. I may ask tech if "XXXXXX" is legal, and if not they may want to keep a look out. If its something that has no measurable effect, or is just nit picking then its not worth worrying about.

I'd also venture to say thay if you got on the wrong side of someone in tech, they could probably find something to throw you out for. Usually they are good about small items, saying "change that before you come back". I most definitely would not want a reputation as a "tattle tale" amongst the tech department. I've found that most of the division guys are very helpful, I never hesitate to call them if I have a question.
Any car can be thrown out any time if a tech guy wants to. Something can be found on any car. We all know that. We depend on our tech guys to be fair and reasonable. Jim

exactly why i will never nitpick some guy's car to tech. Major violations are just that, major. They should be brought to the attention of tech. But minor stuff should be discussed amongst ourselves.

on the flip side of that. the first time I take the I/SA camaro out to a divisional I will make sure Wesley goes over it with a fine toothed comb. If there are any "fix its" or things that need clarification I will get it straight from the horse's mouth and not have to worry about someone else "tattling" on me or saying "such and such on your car isn't right."

I would take what I thought to be an infraction, to a tech offical and ask him to explain what was acceptable to me. I would not tell on the competitor, unless it cost me a heads-up match strickly because of the infraction. In other words if his/her car was .20 quicker than mine, and the infraction was worth .05 I think I would let it go. It's sad that the rule book paper and the ink are starting to merge together...it's all turning gray. I had a situation in which I wanted to do something. I called Wesley Roberson and he said absolutely not. As I did my own investigation I observed multiple infractions. I brought that to the NHRA (no names) after a few months of hounding Bruce, he told me to go ahead as I wanted. The wording was changed the following year in the rule book, to provide this infraction as legal now. My point was that I did not want to make waves, but simply wanted to be afforded the same book as everyone else.

Before any of you go to tech and and turn people in, please be level headed and take into consideration possibly fatal repercussions. People do STUPID things for STUPID reasons.

I had that happen just recently when I was a spectator at a "MAJOR" race, the participant had the wrong horse power for the engine he was declaring. I questioned him about it and he said to me that you can "round down your horsepower to the next equal number". I told him that I didn't think that it worked that way, which I know it doesn't. I didn't have a dog in the fight, but I did remark to a tech official about our conversation. I didn't mention the car or the driver, just questioned the tech official. I don't know if anything was done or changed to correct the weight that the car was missing, I'm hoping that someone else caught the mistake.
