Hey Guys:
Who all uses a Kestrel Weather station? My husband and I have been looking at different weather stations. I've seen the ones hanging from trailers with pagers and yes, they are very expensive. Don't want one that needs a laptop. Being his crew chief you never know how long you will be up in the staging lanes and the weather does change drastically. The hand held ones look great, but when you have to carry 2 tire gauges, a soft drink, cell phone and your smokes, it is really hard to carry one more piece of equipment. Pretty soon, I will be needing a tool belt. Hey Barney and Tom Dimond you have seen me in the staging lanes at Norwalk and Trails it gets a little difficult if you know what I mean. We are currently using an old style Compu Tech and I think it has gotten a little bit inaccurate with it getting hit by rain a few times Just need a little bit of advice or if you know who has one on sale without breaking the bank Thanks. This may be a long shot but we had the opportunity so lightning could strike twice.
We purchased a used Altalab from a friend getting out of racing. He was on top of updating it and took great care of it. We probably paid half the price and the thing works great. There was no way we were affording a brand new one with redoing motors and buying a new trailer and we trusted that he wasn't selling us junk and we we're right. The combination of that and Crew Chief Pro I know is what won us the Dutch Classic this year. So maybe look around for someone getting out of racing that you can trust. You really want to make sure you get something decent. I believe our Performaire lost us some races with its inaccuracy and jumpiness. And even though we did not purchase the station from Altalab, the customer service they have given us is outstanding. Hope this helps! Kelli 1236 S/ST 1836 S/G

I won a hand held Kestrel 4250 weather station this year at the Halloween Classic and have only had a chance to use it once. To me it seems to be a good piece of equipment. It predicted right with my perform-aire.

It is very accuate. It is about 1/2 the price of the hand held units. It supposedly samples air better than all the units under a grand. The prediction formats of the other units is only a guage and if you know your car and have good stats you can guess as good as the pc. I'm buying one for '09.

I have both the 4250 and 4000 models in stock for a great price. They are similar except a few readings and are within $25 of each other.
They work great for the price and even have a wind sensor at no extra charge. I have sold about 75 of them with no reported issues. |

Thanks everybody for responding back. I am very proud of my husbands accomplishment this year and look forward to 2009. I enjoy every minute of being at the track just as much as Rick does. I feel my job as the crew is just as important as the driver. It s my responsibility to be accurate with everything I do for him and that is from getting the tire pressure correct to placing him in the water box. I feel it is time to get rid of our current weather station. It is gotten us by but by the skin of our teeth. It is easy to dial in 9.90 for Super Gas but when you are running multiple classes week to week, it can get tough to dial in with a screwy weather station.
Can you get me a price on your piece or can I just go on your website? Thanks again for everybody's advice and look forward to hearing back from you. Ruthie Bailey |
