Mr Goss, I certianly did not want to give the impression that Jeff lane did not spend money. What I really wanted to emphasize is that what Jeff Lane does (consistantly finished in the top 10 in the nation in every class that he runs), he does so without the advantages that many other drivers have.
A few examples would be: 1. Jeff does not work in the automotive or racing industry and thus does not benifit from the R&D or the feedback from clients (Peter Biondo). 2. He is able to accomplish what he accomplishes without a sponsor (Jerry Emmons, Dan Fletcher). 3. He does not have a teammate to share data with (DeFrank Brothers). 4. He does not tour the country attending 20 races a year that would allow him to act as a "blocker" in other divisions (Dan Fletcher, Jerry Emmons). Without the benefit of any of the above mentioned items Jeff Lane is consistantly at or near the top in his division and in the top 10 in the nation of the all of the classes that he runs whether it be Stock, SS or Comp. He is a multiple National Event and Jeg's All Star winner. He does this with an all volunteer team on a limited budget. He works out of a steel building next to his house in a very small town in Washington (not exactly the racing hub of the nation). A talented driver that runs a limited schedule on a limited budget with an all volunteer team and consistantly runs with or beats the top "semi-professional" teams in the nation. I am not old enough to have seen many of the drivers mentioned in the other posts and I am certian that if they are mentioned that you better believe that they are worthy of the praise that they have been given. There are many excellent shoes in the sportman ranks that go without the praise that they deserve. I am just sticking up for the little guy in lowly Division 6. By the way, if any of you ever see him in the pits do not be afraid to walk up to him and say hello. You will not meet a nicer, smarter more generous guy. Wow, I sound like the president of the Jeff Lane Fan Club. I should be getting paid for this. 67 S Code |
