I've seen a lot of mention of "bring back modified" I guess my question would be, Who's interested? The way I see it they(IHRA) would have no clue that racers would like to see a return of Modified or a similar eliminator without getting input from the racers. I for one believe that there is sufficient interest in a class such as this, obviously there were some problems with Modified as it was contested prior to it's demise. What would you change if anything with regard to the class? What do you believe would be the best way of swaying IHRA to consider such a move? Let's face it Class racing in IHRA is pretty much a joke IMO. Joe Buchanan SS/AX SS/BX 3117

we would run more races if they would go back to modified index racing. come on, we have to get back to real class racing. let me know your thoughts.

You are kicking a dead horse.......it is all a joke.......class racing is nothing but a bunch of old fart die-hards that can't quit the addiction......where are the young guys who care about performance ????? They are either playing with their "mouse" ( computer ) or putting a muffler on their four banger.

Mr. Davenport, I hardly consider myself an "old fart" however I do agree that for the most part the newer generation has little to no interest in participating in Class racing, however if they so wish there are a lot of classes for them to participate in that don't require the same amount of effort or expense as Modified, it's not for every one. I have a son who is a very accomplished Bracket racer however he has little to no interest in Class racing, that doesn't make him less of a racer. Most of the racers I've grown up around just happen to be Class oriented, the drive to improve a combo just for the sake of improving it is not in everyone. I'm sure there are alot of racers with the same "Mentality" I've just posed the question as to the amount of interest. Thanks Joe Buchanan SS/AX SS/BX 3117

Joe,
The interest in Modified is already there but "I and N" just call it Super Stock! I attended the IHRA World Finals in Rockingham for the Super Summit Series deal in 2007 and watched a fair amount of Stock and Super Stock action. More than half the cars that populated Super Stock that weekend were Modified cars! Look at all the big name Super Stock racers who have changed to Modified type cars to control the outcome of the finish line. Fletcher, DeFrank, Biondo (s), Bertozzi, Taylor , Fuqua, Martel, and many others who ran conventional Super Stockers for years and have moved over to "hood scoop" cars and won a lot of $$$ in Modified/Comp trim. I was at Indy in '81 when the Modified cars protested the demise of the class. Was priceless to watch the parade from the stands and the last time I personally saw a group of racers unite and stand up for what they thought was wrong (other than when the Pro Stock Truck competitors took on NHRA and won). The interest is there, its just not called Modified any longer. Mike Ferstl |

Sorry....none of you guys remember the history of the bitter "bomb" the "great IHRA" gave modified and superstock....cut us right off...a lot of great racers were left hung out to dry and never returned.....and will never forget or forgive.

Mr. Davenport, Me and my brother were racing Modified when "They dropped the bomb" on us he hasn't raced since. I've obviously continued however I've not lost the Modified Mentality. I had my ***** handed to me in class run offs the first couple years of running my 6 cyl. combo but I didn't hide or jump class I went home and worked on it, hard to break old habits I guess. I've mostly regarded drag racing as a performance oriented sport, it just seems illogical to me for that to change in class racing.I'd just like to see if there are a few "old farts" like me that would like to have a class where you have to EARN= Qualify your way in thus being "rewarded" for your hard work. After all this is CLASS RACERS.com right? Thanks Joe Buchanan SS/AX SS/BX 3117

I'm with you on the idea........the overall interest just isn't there..........I was president of an association that I will not mention that kept class racing alive for a few years on its own......good and bad experiences.....I found out regretfully that too many so called "class" racers are in it just for themselves and their own selfish interest......very disappointing. Thanks for your continued interest but I'm afraid it is too late for a resurrection.

Wow...how often do you run IHRA? I think IHRA class racing is very competitive. I run a modified combination myself but would run any kind of car whether it is a traditional ss/ha or gt car as long as it fits in the super stock rules. IHRA class racing is far from a joke!

clas racing is not a joke. bracket racing has caused us to be a laughing stock of the racing world. can you imagine a local round track making guys dial in by their qualifing laps, the stands would be as empty as a local weekend at the bracket races. do not get all pissy, it is the truth.
