Er, I don't think that's a "STOCKER," either....

Maybe a Super Stocker...

If that car is a Stocker, it needs to be in the Classification Guide.

It's not.

Where are the horsepower numbers going to come from that will determine the NHRA factors that determine class? For example, the 360 Magnum motor was never offered in a passenger car, and a new one hasn't been built for years. All you can get are crate motors, which are rebuilt engines. I'm not sure where the horsepower numbers on crate motors come from. They may not be run on a dyno according to the SAE standdard that is used for legitimate (conventional) new cars. Then again, they may..

There are several hoops to jump through if these cars are to be run in Stock Eliminator, it seems to me.
There are no numbers in the Classification Guide for ANY 2008 Dodges, much less 2009.

If they want to run these things at Pomona in February, somebody had better get busy, it looks like to me...

I sincerely hope they do; it would be really interesting!!!

This car is a 2008 Challenger and the chassis was built to NHRA Stock Eliminator specs. It is the same car driven by Judy Lilly in Denver and is a development car for Mopar. The Drag Pak Challengers are 2009's and can be ordered begining October 17th.(last Friday). Available engines in the Drag Pak cars are 5.7L, 5.9L and 6.1L with stick or auto trans. The Challenger driven at Milan by Jeg has a 392 Crate Hemi with an auto trans and went 10.20 @ 129.29. AutoWeek covered the testing which was cut short due to rain and I would expect magazine coverage by AutoWeek in the very near future.

I'd bet that if Chrysler wants it in the guide it will be in the guide when they want it. They will clear the hoops in a single bound. Now if it was one of us wanting a change, that would be different.

MPR,

Thanks for all that good information, I appreciate it.

I am curious about two items you reported on.

1. If that car was built ro Stock Eliminator specs, where did the afternarket hood scoop come from, or do ALL the 2008 Challengers have hood scoops like that?

2. What version of a 5.9 (360 Magnum) motor do you think they will be able to install, assuming they run that motor, since it hasn't been manufactured in a while, and was never in a passenger car??? Do you think they'll just stick a crate 5.9 motor in it and use the crate HP rating? I don't know what else they could do.... I guess they could stick in a pickup truck 5.9 of the type that was being installed in trucks the year they quit making it. I don't remember when that was, but I think it was a few years back. I believe it was replaced by the OHC 4.7.

Additionally (and, this is nit-picking, I realize), all the crate motos are overbored .030", so they're not 5.9's any more; they are actually 6.0's.... nomenclature-wise.

Help!!!

The hood scoop as well as several other items are avaiable on the Drag Pak Challenger only and are not being installed on the show room car. The Drag Pak Challenger is a special version being produced with items allowing the car to compete in NHRA Stock classes. I know the NHRA is in the approval stages with Mopar but I'm not in the loop as to how far along they are or when the car will be listed in the Classification Guide. As far as the motor(s) are concerned, I don't know much about them. I can't tell you if the 5.7L is a crate motor or production unit. My suggestion for anyone interested in the Drag Pak Challenger is to contact the're Dodge Dealer and look over the Order Forms and see what options are available. The ordering info was sent to Dodge Dealers last friday.
