Default Steering Damper 85 Camaro

On our 85 Camaro Stocker we have a steering damper that is NOT a Quay or other purpose built part. It appears to be from another application. I was told it may be for a VW Scirocco or ?? Can anybody shed some light on what I can use. I am short of time and can't get a "made to order" on time and was hoping to source a part locally that would work.
Last weekend I noticed oil leaking from the existing damper. I believe as a result I experienced a severe wheel shimmy after the launch when the wheels touched down. Once was enough!
Any information or advice would be apreciated.

It can be from a VW Scirocco or a late model, 1970's VW Bug. remove the old one and find a VW specialty shop and match it.

Chuck you better rethink those big wheel stands. Tie that front end down. That'll fix er.

I have saw some cars use ones that were the same as a 70's VW beetle. These are cheap and easy to find. Don Jackson

I was able to source a damper from a VW as you guys said. I believe the application said something along the lines of 1960-72 VW Beetle. I made a very minor modification and it bolted right on. I ran the car yesterday and everything worked fine.
Thanks to all of you for your input.

From a safety point of view I'm happy to hear you found the cure Chuck. But on the other hand with those huge wheelstands I think you are having WAAAYYYYYY!!!! too much fun. Doug
