Longtime member, lurker, Super Stock fan. Have been wanting to give class racing a try for decades, recent health issues dictate now or never, lol. Just purchased this 1988 Mustang, 289 based GT/PA car. Appears to have some past history on the West Coast, more recently in the Ky., Indiana area. Just getting started sorting through what I actually have to work with. Looks like it made a couple of passes late last season that were under index, but honestly don't even know if it was legal, at weight, etc. Short term goals are to just go over the car, update some suspension and wiring, verify it is actually legal, make weight, make some passes, and see what I have. Going to be slow moving for the next couple of months. I was diagnosed with Stage 4 Prostate Cancer, and have been moving pretty well through that, then started having back pain. Last week, couldn't walk. Spinal surgery last week removed a tumor that cured that, just healing and planning now. I have build sheets, a few past owners names, and a few pictures to get started here. If anyone knows the car, please share. I appreciate it. Looks like it might have belonged to Joe Stadelman and later Brian Gaines somewhere along the way.

Interestingly enough I've been around the low HP 4bbl 289 Super Stock engine combination before, Kip Martin's 289 made 467 HP @ 7300 RPM and 380 TQ Super Flow 901. This power held the SS/L record @ 10.27 or 10.29 @ 127 MPH many years ago. Hopefully you can use this information because dyno information is not usually posted on this forum.
One other thing I did notice is the 1.236 correction factor, which could be high for 5000 feet elevation depending on the time of the year. Typically in Colorado @ 6400 feet elevation I would get a 1.27 to 1.30 correction factor. Last edited by HP HUNTER; 05-19-2025 at 06:56 AM. |

As you can see, that is a very old Dyno sheet, lol.And you're correct, I should not have included it. It has been removed. OxyCotin is strong at the moment, will make better decisions (hopefully) over the next few days. I'm told the engine is still the same as the last build from over 10 years ago and has mostly been sitting. I'm going to go ahead and pull it apart and see what's inside, condition of everything. Gives me something to do in the meantime.

Have not started doing actual work yet, still trying to get my back healed enough to allow it, and waiting on my new shop to be finished. But I'm trying to help the economy! I've been ordering parts. All new TeamZ rear suspension with relocated uppers and anti roll bar. New Strange front and rear adjustable struts and shocks. New Strange rear disc brakes with Motion Raceworks master cylinder and plumbing kit. New ARC 12000 wiring kit. New fuel cell and Holley dual pump in tank fuel pump, new regulator and braided lines. New Mezierre water pump, Team Z engine plate and mid plate, new Jesel belt drive kit, Msd crank trigger kit. New shifter, Jegs aluminum seats, removable steering wheel. New Ken Keir stocker wheelie bar. Once I get the engine apart, I'll see what it needs, but at minimum I want to do a valve job, new springs, bearings,rings, gaskets, and go through the carb. And of course verify it's all legal. Also plan on going through the C4 and rear end, just so I know what I have and what condition everything's in. Hopefully in the next few weeks the shop will be finished, parts will be sitting here, and I'll be physically ready to get some work done. I obviously have no idea what the car will run, but I'm committed to giving Super Stock a try. Looking forward to seeing what we can do with this combination.

I Believe this car was built by Kenny Moore in California and run as a stock, superstock and even a bracket car.

That is very possible. I have seen where Joe Stadelman ran it as a Stock and Super Stock car, and my understanding is that he bought it from someone in Ca
