I've run several sets of both brands of typical stocker tires. 30x9 radials. Cars both ran great on either brand. The difference is MT's had cords showing at 75ish runs. Hoosiers I easily get 100+ runs out of a set. I've spoken to a couple MT reps and they say that's normal and were unwilling to do anything for me on a new set.

Any of the Racing Slicks you mentioned will be fine
on a car with 1.5 @ 60 and a glide unless there is a major chassis issue.

4400 pounds tho. If it weighed 2800 it'd be more like a 1.30 60ft. Would it still be true if that were the case?

Try what you have on hand first imo.
If you want a DOT bias tire(slick) , I would look at the Hoosier Quick Time Pros. I've used them for index classes as well as others with success requiring DOT tires.

I guess kind of where I'm at, is a situation where I really don't know the condition of these used tires I've got, so I don't know if they'll be good representations of a new set. At the same time, do I get a third set of wheels and take them all to the track and do a/b/c comparison runs, or do I say "I know these 3754s are way too tricky, let's unmount them and put the 3060R on". Unfortunately, I don't have a tire machine, so any changes costs more money. Although I guess in the big picture, all R&D costs some amount of money. On that same note, I'm having to weigh out section width versus wheel backspace. I have about an inch and a quarter from the leaf spring to the sidewall right now at 5.5 inches of backspace, so either the Hoosier or the 3060 I'm going to lose a half inch of that clearance. If I go to the Hoosier 30x10.5, I definitely have to go to a 4.5 backspace. With my weight I don't think I really need a 30x10.5 tire, it would definitely be a little more forgiving. But for stuff where I don't need that dot stamped tire, I'm trying to decide which way I want to go - short and wide, or tall and skinny. Last edited by DailyDriverSst; 02-04-2025 at 07:56 PM. |

I lot of the higher HP Stockers are way faster than that on the above tires. We have found very little difference in ET between Goodyears and Hoosiers the last several years. Years ago, the Goodyears tended to not recover from wheel spin very well. However, Goodyear seems to have gotten a handle on that since that time.

If you are going to run Super Street, keep in mind that you will be first out in the morning. I would highly suggest running a bias-ply slick as it will be more forgiving. In Division 2, it is hit-or-miss on what kind of track you are going to get from the NHRA early in the AM (and late in the rounds). A lot of Stockers are running a bunch of weight to compensate for this.

I also wouldn't count anyone out just based on opinions. There are some people out there that will flat out murder you in anything. I will throw Fletcher out there as an example.

From personal experience, I believe M/T makes the best "Big" tire. Had a set of 32x13 hoosiers that were down right awful. I put 14.5x32 MTs on and its been amazing ever since and I get tons of runs out of them. I've also had great luck with Phoenix big tires (radial construction) that came off a SS car like 1320 eluded to. As far as a smallish tire like you are wanting to run, I've heard nothing but good things about the 30x9 Hoosier from all who run it. They work better, live longer, and hold air. At this point, the people that run MT/Goodyear have to be on deals in order to overlook the Hoosiers the way I see it.
