Dawson, you know I love your online presence and super appreciate the DragInsights shout-out as well as your ongoing support.
This sounds pretty judgy and preachy. As the only woman weighing in on this thread...we're literally damned if we do and damned if we don't at every turn. How this lady chooses to run her business is not my style but yeah...the days when racers could only make money in the sport by leveraging their race success are over. Hell I turned a completely mediocre and short racing career into a business. ![]() Hugs! |

Everyone has focused on the sex side of it. Here's a different prospective that I learned.
I was going to open a micro distillery, I built my first still when I was 14 and have ran a still up until a few years ago as I pretty much gave up drinking. However, when I made it and people tasted it and said I should go into business so I did research. Very long and expensive journey later I learned "it's not about your product, it's about marketing". An instructor (master distiller) asked a guy in class "you sell this?" when the answer was yes he asked "ever sell someone a second bottle"? In other words, if you have good marketing, you product (liquor or racing or roofing) isn't as important, stuff will sell with the right marketing.

Mark, Alicia You guys completely overlooked the point of my post. While yes, I do believe selling yourself and having a pornography site as you main sources of income is, at the very least, unbecoming, that's not the point I was trying to make. I only mentioned the porn because I found it interesting and trashy. The point I was trying to make, which is the second to last paragraph before the "FYI" is that I'm sick of seeing all the talent that exists in class racing overlooked in favor of a pretty face. I race against the best racers in the country week in and week out, folks that deserve to have the spotlight, that are talented and have dedicated there lives to the craft. People that have not created a fake internet following by paying meta to boost their social media posts. That's why I added her draginsights data for reference. At the end of the day, everybodies got to make a living, do what you have to do, but don't sponsor posts that show up in my FB feed and pretend your some great racer because you have a lot of sponsorships. You aren't, and I have the receipts.

Ya know Dawson, about a million years ago when Jeff Gordon was just coming up he had an interview (you could probably find it) in which he said something to the effect of "I'm not the best driver out there, the best drivers never get found. I was just lucky."

During the time I was active, I looked at hundreds - maybe thousands - of computer graphs. I could instantly see who was never going to be a winner and who had skills above all. One amazing graph I saw back in the 4 speed days was a driver who was over/under the shift points for all 3 changes by less than 20 rpm. Yes, that's adding them all together. I can think of at least 3 drivers who were at the very top in skill but things never fell into place for them to truly fund their program. And a larger number than that with stout sponsorship deals that made me wonder how that happened. Going back years, it's been that way even though you're noticing it now. I'm not going to spend the time to give a lot of thought to it, but offhand I'm having a problem thinking of many drivers/teams who made it to the big time simply by being really good at racing. Sad but true. |

Marketing Partners in all of Motorsports today, care about social media presence first and foremost and anything else a distant second.
I say good for her, use whatever advantage you have to get sponsors. Last edited by 1320racer; 12-17-2024 at 12:52 PM. |
