Small motor/what converter
What a great place , thanks to all who keep up this site, new here, learning about bracket racing.
I have built a 97 ranger, 2900 w/me, about 400 hp FW 302, E85, Drag race only I foot brake it and sure would like to get it to leave harder. its a PTC 5500 8 inch. It will barely ft brk, in 1st gear 3000 rpm. and takes a bit to climb into power. It has a 5.71 gear and a 28 in PBR. it drops 1100 rpm between shifts which i think it should be alot less. its a Hyd roller 237/243 @50 .602/.610 on a 105.5 . I would think I need to have it flash right up to 4500 or so, how do i do that with out getting rid of the SLR? help appreciated, Robert |

Re: Small motor/what converter
I'd send the converter back along with the same explanation you have here and see if he can "loosen" it up a bit without changing much stall.
A few hundred RPM won't hurt it being a small engine.

Re: Small motor/what converter
Thank you Pmrphil. Do you think the gear is in line with my combo? My thoughts were w/o it it wouldn't leave. I know it tightens converter, but I see stockers leave with 6.00 gear

Re: Small motor/what converter
Gotta remember yours is not a stocker, it's a bracket piece. I would think consistency over ET is more important. Do the math (Wallace calculator) to figure rear gear. 1/8 mile you might be ok, probably not 1/4 mile, I don't think you'll have enough RPM.
