I dont believe you were allowed to set the record. Only certain races can you have record runs. And then a record set requires teardown.
I dont know if there were any teardown for class even.

Thats new news for me, I thought you could set a record at any division or national open race, just had to put an R on the window. However, I took a 14 year break from drag racing and have only been back a few years, so maybe its changed as you suggested.

Records can be set at any division race or national open. I don't believe there is an official rule, but in the last few years instant hp runs were required to tear down (-1.30 now not -1.20). As said R is required to be put on the window.
