I am a retired Marine (24 years), I understand what you are saying, both islands mentioned were sovereign territory of Imperial Japan. The "invasion" of Iwo Jima cost 7000 plus lives, a fact that was classified until after the war, because the toll was too high to justify the taking of a 2.5 mile strip of land.

You being a man of the world and I only lived in Honduras for 18 months, you would know crossing into the Panama Canal Zone and over the canal would be a “no go”. The countries with the highest crime and violence rates in Central America are El Salvador and Honduras. They not leaving because of religious beliefs (Pilgrims), or failed potato crops (Irish) or gas chambers (Jews), they are leaving for a better life for themselves and their children.
