Doug you don't need to apologize to any of us on here. I have to believe most of us old guys love seeing a young guy like yourself involved in Stock. Wish there was more of you. But that's another story. It's great you have that old timer (LOL) Billy helping you out. You will learn a lot from him.

Tavirace, My close friend and I'll call him Danny was doing exactly what you said several years ago. He ran in H/SA. At 3 races in a row he had a heads up race in the first round. He tried hard to be competitive but with the old school Stocker he didn't really have a chance. So in the end he spent thousand of dollars to travel, enter a race, and maintain his car not to be competitive. If you run a competitive class and want to be able to run close to others you don't have much of a choice. In G/SA an 11.20 won't get you very far. Didn't someone run 10.60's in G this year.

So all you guys that are worried about the old school stockers with flat tappet lifters becoming more like Super Stockers. What do you think about the Stockers with parachutes on them? LMAO Stocker with another manufactures rear in the car. Blower's on a Stocker. That one really cracks me up. Adapter plates on the back of motors to be able to use another manufactory tranny. Eight second Stockers?
My 94 car doesn't even need a tack in it. With the E-shift the car drives itself. Then it adjusts the fuel curve as it goes down the track. And you worry about roller lifters!! That are being used by so many other combo's
I'd understand about the lifters if you could get a good set but when they stop making them that's another story.

Bubski still can't use your real name. Frank said he never said that to you. As far as my combo I've never been really crazy about it. I'd rather run a small block. But at 20 grand for the car it was hard to pass up. BP

Gump, you are my hero when it comes to common sense. I think that
could be a tough argument given that the Showdown Cars runs as
quick as 7.60's. Now, their 9" tires are wider than our 9" tires, so I
could see this heading to a NHRA ruling that all F/S cars and A thru E
regular cars get to use the wider 9" tires, and all others use the regular
9" tires. Before I get attacked, this is just my guess on what could happen,
not what I want.

Bubski As for the most enhanced combo on record the L78

If you think that the L 78 is the most gifted engine combo you need to go back to looking in the guide. There are a lot of combo's that are far better off than this one. Years ago I watched someone pull an aluminum driveshaft out of a 67 Mustang. Said it was listed as an option on the car. Who was building aluminum driveshafts back then? But if you think it's that easy with the L78 combo come on in the water is fine. You won't need acid for the heads. I'm sure with all your knowledge you would move to the front of the line.

What happens if the tire manufactures decide to stop making 9 inch slicks. They did away with the 7's years ago. And let's face it not many measure 9 anyway. Are you guys going to say nope sorry you should have seen this coming. And had extra sets. BP

The FSS cars run the 3060R 9” MT radials. They are the same tire stockers run. I run the Goodyear radial that few showdown cars run. Also a 9” tire. The showdown cars run wider rims that make the tires look bigger.

Gump talk about cars that should have been in Super Stock you have a few of them. Lets hear about your engine spec's and what you use for a rear and trany. How about the suspension. Don't get me wrong I like the new cars in Stock but anyone that uses the excuse that adding roller lifters is gong to make the older cars more like a Super Stocker is a joke with what is being run in Stock today. It's really just going to put the lifters more inline with a lot of the other combo's that are running Stock. But that is not why this needs to be looked at. The good lifters that will last in today's competitive class Stockers for the older car are not Available.

If they were made legal I wouldn't use them until I hurt my motor so I felt I had no choice. But we have racers that have raced a long time sitting on the sidelines waiting for lifters that may not ever be available.

NHRA has a list of superseded parts because of the (Availability). If you can't get a lifter that will last in your combo I believe this is as good as any case that they have allowed other parts in.

I think that we all know the "answer". Some people on here just want to change the "question"!

I know Schubecks have garnered a lot of flack over the years and I've seen the damage they can do when they come apart but I've run the same set for 12 seasons and they don't look any different from the day I installed them. I do run more spring pressure than I probably have to trying to make sure they stay in contact with the cam and the cam is starting to show some signs of wear but very little.
I can't believe in this day and age someone can't come out with an "improved" ceramic lifter, especially now that we can run solids and don't need room in the body for the hydraulic plunger.
I doubt any manufacturer out there is going to make roller cams and lifters for my combo so I'll be stuck with a flat tappet setup regardless.
