Wow, I thought this was a thread about Hurricane Ian. People will be dying in my state very shortly and you guys have turned a thoughtful thread into a "Does anybody know how this will affect the race in Virginia NEXT YEAR"!! Shame on you. I thought we were better than that. Start another thread if that is all you want to think about. I can tell you this will affect the race in Orlando and Bradenton for sure. How do you think Peter Noriega is doing in Miami right about now? Jim Bailey and 100s other racers and their families? 6 very destructive tornadoes spawned by this storm so far. 155 MPH winds will be hitting us soon. This is a cat 5 storm guys and it won't be fun here for a long time. How about saying a prayer for your fellow racers. Wind and rain is picking up here and I have more important things to worry about than some of you missing a race or two. I am directly in the path. The song keeps running through my head "For those about to die, we salute you". Jim

As stated above, we should be thinking and praying for ALL the people in the path of Ian. This storm will effect thousands and thousands of people. I have family traveling in the area north of Florida right now. They are safe, for now, but hope they retreat to the west soon. I also have 2 friends (a young couple) on their delayed honeymoon at Disney World. I pray that they, along with everyone else, get out safely or bunker down somewhere and make it through this storm.
MY PRAYER IS FOR ALL TO BE SAFE AND LIVE THROUGH THIS. Update on my family traveling. They are in Johnson City, Tennessee. That is NW of Charlotte North Carolina which is in the projected path of Ian.

I am here in the Tampa Bay Area. Yesterday we were right in the Bulls Eye for land fall. I did my hurricane prep. Boarded up windows gathered water and food got gas for cars trucks and generators. Plans were made to evacuate to higher ground with our vehicles and toter this morning before the storm hit.
When I woke up this morning the path of the storm had shifted to the south enough to spare us. We dodged a huge bullet. Yesterday I had resigned myself that I probably would not have anything left to come home too. Between the crushing wind and storm surge of a cat 4 hurricane I would have lost everything. We are counting our blessings right now. We are still getting tropical storm force winds here and there is damage and power outages. There are lots of racers here in the SW Florida area and many will be affected. Keep them in your thoughts.

Jim,
My apologies, it was definitely not the intent of my posts to defer the serious situation at hand. I have seen and spoken to a few people who have said their whole neighborhood is gone and some who just had rain and wind....very crazy on how these storms work. Prayers to all the racing community who calls Florida their home or have "Snowbird" homes down in those areas affected. It was just getting frustrating trying to make people understand that it's just not that easy to move an event. A lot of behind the door talk that happens that us as racers will never see or hear about and it, we did, our heads might explode. So my apologies and I hope you and your family are safe. |

I just talked to the friends of mine down there and said it is better now. He said some damage and still some winds but the worst appears to be over. They are at Disney World and that area is on the edge of the path and not hit as hard as other areas. Very good news for me. I told them "see you when you get back."
With that being said, I have seen the overwhelming devastation in some parts of Florida. I am grateful that my friends are O.K. but that doesn't lessen the impact on this region. It will take months and tons of help to allow this area to recover. My family that is traveling from here that are in Tennessee will get the storm sometime late Saturday. My prayers are for them to be safe. Update - - Just talked with the family and they are heading west early Saturday morning. Prayers for the people in Florida and the surrounding areas in the path of Hurricane Ian.
